Notepad is the best website building program. If you don't use it, or something similar to it, your website will not get a second glance. So, go ask Google for a free webhost, get a domain from Free Domain Name Registration - Get a Short .co.nr web address!, and build a *real* website.

That isn't possible, Eric: those are only subdomains, not domains.

The "domain" is "co.nr" and the Dutch company that owns that domain licenses subdomains and offers free subdomain redirection services (but with a number of "strings" and "catches").

".co.nr" isn't a domain extension like (for example) ".co.uk." is. The "co" part is the domain-name, not part of the extension. They're not actually free domains at all. I know it says "free domain name registration" on their site, but they're not being honest about it: it's actually "subdomain licensing" not "domain registration" at all. It's a rather important and significant distinction, as some have discovered to their cost.

Those subdomains have other striking drawbacks, as well. I'd recommend them only to my direct competitors. :p

He beat me to it! I could not agree with this more. Notepad is the by far the best and cheapest web site builder you will find. Learning enough HTML and CSS to make changes to a framework or blank template of some sort is really quite easy.

Don't be intimidated by it, it's much simpler than people seem to think. Start with a site like W3Schools Online Web Tutorials to learn the basics. Then do a search for some free CSS templates or frameworks and apply what you have learned.

If you have hosting and a domain I would go for wordpress... probably they have a plugin for shops... just google it.... wordpress is free and lots of the plugins are as well...

I agree. Wordpress with the Woo Commerce plugin would be my choice. It's all free.

Really depends, weebly is pretty good as far as static websites go, they also added a blog feature. For the new year they also added 20 new themes to pick from. The best part is that its drag and drop. No programming required www.Weebly.com

With that said WordPress from what I have used in the past is the greatest CMS service of all time. Its so versatile and because its so popular there will always be a solution to your problems. Www.wordpress.org

If you are selling something then bigcommerce.com is a great deal. They give you everything you need including a built-in cart, a wide variety of templates to choose from, 24/7 chat support, and allow you to use your own domain name with your site on their server. Their cart accepts over 50 different payment methods as well. I just started using them for one site I'm running and the "hands off" approach of bigcommerce has been a huge time saver!

If you are serious about your business then this is the way to go, if you dont like WP for some reason then check out joomla, lots of free plugins to do what you require

I like to use webs.com to create free sites.. Also use em for backlinking purposes. You can make the website look pro with webs. Takes a couple hours at the most as opposed to using Wordpress.

I would check out blogger.com, wordpress.com and weebly.com. Some pretty descent resources there to start with. Hope that helps!

I use blogger and I wish I had gone with wordpress. My vote is for wordpress. However, weebly and bravenet are pretty decent, too. I have used both of those.

I wish to rec a new one. Blue Griffon is the name. It was created by the old nvo guy. This is a great program. Best of all, it is free and that is great for us. I am using Blue Griffon more an more.
