Creating a site like HighDeas?

So I want to create a site similar to highdeas. I want people to be able to post in a similar fashion. I'm used to WordPress and pretty proficient at it, but I believe the owners used Drupal to create highdeas.

I know BuddyPress can be used on wordpress, but for some reason buddypress seems to be somewhat primitive for the function I'm seeing on highdeas. There's a chance I don't know enough about buddypress to make that assumption.

I'm not looking for a step by step walkthrough of how to do this (though I wouldn't turn it away lol), but just a step in the right direction with some strands and advice to move from here. Thanks for the help.

    "highdeas.com" = amazing website. But I agree, there can be more done or even some competition. I could see some affiliate products for bongs and bowls and other smoking materials as well. As long as you can get the traffic, this "Highdea" can't fail .

    Sorry I can't help you out with buddypress, not sure I know much about it. I just wanted to comment on how open the market is for sites like this.

    Oops sorry, I may have misrepresented. I don't want to give them competition, but rather provide a similar functioning on a website. It's for a totally unrelated niche.

      Hey grey38, from what i read it seems that you want to create a website with same functionality as HighDeas using Wordpressplatform.

      Well, there are many User-driven Content Sharing wordpress theme available online which can serve your purpose. I remember i used a theme called Me Gusta for one of my image sharing website. May be you can customize it and use it for your website.

    I must say sketch, I was concerned this couldn't be done with wordpress, but that theme looks amazing. It also seems to have great functionality. This is definitely worth the 50 dollar price tag. Thanks so much!

    Anyone know of any other user-driven content themes? or themes or ways of creating this kind of site. I looked into Me Gusta by cosmo themes, and while it looks amazing on the outside a lot of people are having issues with it and the authors don't seem to want to keep updating the theme to make it more versatile (this gives me fear they might stop altogether in the future).

    Sketch you mentioned there were many themes like this one, however I cannot find any other ones. Any idea what others might be?
