Marketing Your Music Online?

Hi Guys,
I just would like to ask here about marketing of your music online.
Have somebody tried to use internet marketing skills for that?
Yes, sure I understand that one of the best way to promote your music is with Yotube.
However, I need something even more than that. May be do you know some special press release distribution services for music?
Any tips will be great for me!

Thanks

  • There are thousands of services online both free and paid that can be of help to a person marketing their music online. What you should do at this point however is consult with a music professional who is able to evaluate what stage of development you are at today, and who can advise you on what the appropriate next step to take is. You asked about press release distribution services for music, and even though this may or may not be what you need at this point, I'll add this link here: Mi2N - Music Industry News Network

    Hope this helps.

An important question is what type of music do you produce? Are you a singer? A band? Or do you make beats or royalty free music?

Is your goal to sell concert tickets, physical CDs, or digital downloads?

There are a lot of variables that we need to know. Please give us some more details and then we can probably help you better!

I agree that social media is the way to go with this. She needs to have a YT channel of her singing her songs or covers.

Also, I would recommend two things. 1) go ahead and buy an HD video camera (I like Canon Digital SLRS) and a decent microphone. You should be able to get both for under $1k. Having quality videos is important because there is TONS of competition! 2) Tell her to start branding herself and her YT channel. Have a logo made and have it as a video opener/watermark on her videos.

I agree with whoever said to interact with the viewers. She needs to TELL them at the beginning and end of every video to subscribe, follow, friend, etc. her.

That should be a good start!

Yeah social media is going to be your biggest driver for marketing success when it comes to music.

YouTube can also be pretty big for you. Post videos of her doing covers of popular songs on the radio right now. Have a link to your site on each video, which leads them to a squeeze page. Also, have her actually tell her audience at the end of each video to like her on facebook, follow her on twitter, etc.

There are many ways. But there's ONE way which beats them all. It has worked for years and will continue working for years.

At your gigs, make sure you get people to sign up to your "fan club" or mailing list. If you go down a storm, they WILL. This will require that you set up a little table somewhere and have all your forms on the ready. Maybe a friend will offer to man it for you.

During the show, remind people to sign up. After the show, mingle, and encourage some more.

Meanwhile, ensure that your site is cool, interesting and funky. Make sure it speaks to YOUR audience - not to "the whole world."

Come up with interactive things for your visitors to do, and don't let everything be just about you, but also about things that appeal to your fans. (You MUST know your target audience). It can be completely unrelated things - but something they discovered on YOUR site. It can - and probably should - be funny, a lot of the time.

Send them a brief newsletter once every couple of weeks - or provide a form where they can opt-in to receiving updates every time a post is launched.

Make sure you offer your best and coolest songs for download - free. Have your gig schedule easily available on the site and offer discount tickets. Make it FUN to take part.

The cooler your site is - the easier it will be to promote.

If it's working with the handful of members - it will work with a bigger handful. At one point, you can encourage them to help you promote your band and the site. You may offer rewards like "having a beer on me" after the show - or whatever. Keep it light and fun.

I can almost guarantee you that THIS method will get you MORE exposure and impact (if done well) than just about anything else.

And as you grow, you come up with new strategies that will help your message go viral.

Firstly you could visit the site Radio Airplay (formally Jango) where you can purchase play credits and if you get lots of listeners and fans they will give you Free extra plays on your account.
    Music Promotion | Radio Airplay

For distribution you could use Tunecore or CD Baby. There is a set up fee but you get to keep 100% of the sales royalties.

It's worth giving Radio AirPlay a shot as you can gain a fan base and they can also leave you their email address so you can start list building
