HI All...
It seems like a no brainer - Yahoo Answers for Traffic Generation. Just curious to know if you've used it successfully to generate traffic....?

Yes I have. I even log on one yahoo account just to ask a very specific question then I'll log on another yahoo account and answer my question. (Putting my link in the answer)

You have to be very careful though. I got suspended twice for putting in a link that went straight to my affilliate page and I tried to put a link for my download and got suspended again. I saw a video somewhere on how to do it the right way and after some sitting on the fence I tried it. Haven't been suspended for this new account yet. The key is to be helpful. Research your answer. Give good content for your answer. Find a CB product or Amazon product and find a good EZ article to link to. The CB or EZ article should have a good compelling story so people click on the link. I also think it was key that they used tinyURL for the links.

Yes I have, but there are a few points to remember:

    1. It won't help with SEO, as they use rel=nofollow. In the old days they didn't and it boosted SEO as well. Now it's only traffic.
    2. Be careful not to be too blatant with the Q's and A's you post. I've heard of cases were yahoo closed accounts on this, and you don't want this to happen with one of your main yahoo IDs.
    3. Lifeline on answers is short. They stay in the archive, but in my experience people usually prefer to ASK their own new Q, not SEARCH for an existing answer.
But after all is said and done - yes, it's a nice way to get some traffic. Especially in non-marketing niches (sports, clothing, music, personal development, etc.)

    Best,
    Brad

I did. But I got banned eventually... for spamming. If you want to use YA for traffic generation be careful when posting links. Do not do it in succession. And of course, always provide valuable answers.

Right now, I've given up on YA. My 2 IDs are already banned.

I just got chucked off there yesterday and haven't a clue why and nor will they tell me. I've only been on twice and answered a handful of questions on topics I was interested in and helpfully. I didn't use affiliate links and only linked to sites which would further help with the queries so I am baffled with the so called abuse.

I'm not bothered about being chucked off Answers, but they also closed an email account I've had for years that is linked to one of my blogging things so that is annoying.

Thanks for reinforcing my opinion of Yahoo! Answers I really do find it full of middle schoolers and such who just spam around answers for "points" as if they meant something. It's definitely something I'd hate to be a part of, even for Internet Marketing.

Yahoo Answers traffic generation idea has been around for a long time.

It all seems too easy to do.

However - spend a lot of time doing it and you will eventually see it can be a waste of time as you get banned VERY easily.

The problem with Yahoo answers is that there is not much control over what you post. OK, what I mean by this is that you could spend 2 hours answering questions and YA can simply deleted your account in seconds.

Yes - this can happen on many sites, but most sites allow you to stay when you add GOOD RELEVANT CONTENT and a link to your site.

You can add good relevant - highly relevant content to Yahoo Answers and you there is a high chance you WILL get banned. This is a common complaint about Yahoo Answers. However - some people have had luck with it.

There is a lot of spam on there as well - and rumors of others dobbing in others to get banned.

Simply - it is not really worth the effort. You may get a few hits for a week or so - but then BAM - you get banned so it is not really a long term solution.

    Find other long term solutions like;

    - Writing Articles
    - Posting good relevant content on other people's blogs as a comment in your niche
    - Posting to forums in your niche.

You need to spend the time to post excellent comments to attract visitors your way.

If you don't spend more time than you can spare, and don't overdo the answering, it can be a great investment of effort.

It gets real people visitors to your site, and some buy when they get there!

Yes I've used it but not purely for 'traffic generation' as I didn't pound it hard. However the few hits I have gotten from there (maybe as much as 100 hits or so all tolled) did produce a decent outcome for me.

Yahoo answers is definitely a good traffic source. It is also a quick traffic source and it can be fun.

If you take a good look @ it, you'll notice that a lot of answers will suggest websites, landing pages etc..

They are all webmasters trying to get traffic. The amount of traffic will be even larger if your answers get chosen as "best answer". That's why writing a good answer is important!

Keyword here is answers. I just got 2 questions erased that was construed as promoting my blog or web site. All I did was ask a couple of Twitter questions and dropped my Twitter URL in the question. I really wasn't promoting it - I've got 1100 followers so it didn't really matter if I got any more out of this. I asked legitimate questions. It looks like I might be banned again soon.

    Hi,

I tried yahoo answers and came away feeling a bit violated lol. Some of the questions (and answers) are obviously folk trying to be funny, dirty, mean whatever and there is no way I'm going trolling for a good question to answer, faced with that lot. It could scar you for life lol.

P.S I got a "best answer" but don't think I really got much traffic from it.

Overall, I'd say spend your time on other, more satisfying I.M strategies.

I use Yahoo Answers for traffic in one particular niche because there seems to be a fair number of questions asked specifically for that niche. But I don't make many sales...sometimes it takes a few weeks for them to get off the fence.
I use the advanced search feature, so I'm not wasting my time scrolling through the stupid, unintelligent, home-work seeking questions that are so prevalent there.
I've also been suspended twice, I guess for having my Squidoo lens and blog in the resource box. I now have all links in my profile with a nice write up. When I answer a question, I refer the the lens and blog and direct them to find the links in my profile. Works pretty well.

Yes, it is the quickest, easiest way to drive traffic on the entire Internet in my opinion ONLY next to Google...I have the stats to prove it.

I have about 8,000 questions on there with my domains on them.

I just got bored with it, and the traffic always dies down...so I focus on the best ....Google.

I've used Yahoo Answers for about the last 2 months, but haven't put a lot of effort into it. I think i answered 20 questions relevant to my niche. I got 4 Top Answers and about 40 visits to my site in that time. No sales can be attributed to Yahoo Answers during that period.

I scoured the forum in February to see what people's views were about YA and got pretty much the same reaction as you have today. "It can be good, you can get banned and it's only a short term method". Then i remember reading another thread here @ WF about getting traffic from Wikipedia. I tried the technique for a few sites, but kept getting my link deleted! (I can't for the life of me find a link to the thread now!) Then i discovered Wiki Answers. Again, pretty much the same platform as Yahoo Answers. However, without the hormonal adolescent attitude, if you get my meaning.

Wiki Answers has what you might call your more mature participant. I have used Wiki, but again the traffic is nothing mindblowing. I guess i should add, i never answer more than 10 questions a week (so as not to get banned and laziness!).

        Cheers

Wow that was spooky! As i was writing the post above, i received an e-mail from Wiki Answers Newsletter.

They have an Answerthon this weekend April 25th - 26th. Basically they want people to answer as many questions as they can over the 2 days. Wiki Answers are giving out prizes to the people who have answered the most questions!

So this a great opportunity to test how much traffic you can get from this source.

Yahoo is probably the top dog, but Mahalo launched an answers site not long ago that seems to be getting some traction at Open Questions - Mahalo Answers. It's also setup to work through twitter and the audience appears a bit more mature than what folks may see on Yahoo answers. Definitely a service to keep an eye on.

UPDATE:- I've been suspended again for the third time. I guess it just gets easier and easier to get suspended once you've been banned once. I started out with a cut and pasted answer for the "how to get traffic to my website" question and answered with links to traffic exchanges I belonged to. Then I made 1 mistake and it seemed that with every new identity that I posted a link with (tiny url link) I got nailed. I guess Yahoo didn't like the competition.

Man if I could get 5 (or 4 or 3 or even 2) affiliate sales for 20 minutes of work every day that would make me a happy happy man right now.
That would be something (a steady income) to build a business on.

I use Y!Answers for traffic generation. Of course I have to admit that they shut me down a couple of times before I learned how to use Y!Answers correctly so as to not get an account banned.

One of the things I do is go into Y!Answers and find open questions or topics that get a lot of responses, then build a blog around the topic using PLR articles. I then return to Y!Answers and throw my two cents worth in and put my quick blog in the box as the resource where I found my answer.

This method has resulted in my blogs getting a study stream of traffic from Y!Answers for as long as a year or more. Even though my blogs aren't blogger, google still loves them just the same because of Y!Answers and constantly sends them traffic.

I see that being linked from Y!Answers by google can cause google to rank you high for particular keywords or phrases. Because of Y!Answers and google, Y! and MSN also follow suit and rank you high and send traffic also.

So, when used correctly, Y!Answers is a wonderful tool for traffic generation and you gain the side benefits of google, Y!, MSN, and the smaller search engines. And, it's all free organic traffic... which I think is personally the best overall because it's focused and targeted. It's also a great way to quickly become recognized as an authority site.

So, my final answer is a resounding YES with high recommendations for using Y!Answers.

I have been searching the forum to try and figure out why I got suspended. I guess if you include a link then they take it as spamming. I spent a fair amount of time actually giving thought out and pertinant answers only to have all that removed. I was going to totally give up on the stuff, but I think someone here has the way to do it and that is to make sure your site is the resource you can quote. I may try again. Any of you relying on yahoo mail, should make sure you create a separate account for this. I'm really not sure yahoo understands why they suspend people.

    Hey,

As this thread is related to Yahoo Answers you may check out my $5 WSO
    http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...al-2009-a.html
about it. Many customers has reported success with Yahoo Answers and sent me rave reviews,
some of those are posted in WSO thread.

You just need to be careful about posting affiliate links. Always put the
link from your own domain's landing page and no affiliate link directly, with
    all tracking in that...

Also here is one tip... Create Landing Pages at your site specially for Yahoo Ans
users on the Most important and poplar topics in your NICHE... and when you post
answer to some of those question link that most relevant landing page...so that
it in fact adds the value to the answer instead of spamming...
