How do you know if your chosen niche topic has buyers ?

Hi
I want to create my own product but before I do I thought it would be a good idea to try and make a sort of step by step guide of the different steps to take.

Now I understand about how to pick a topic and keyword research etc but what I cant get my head around is how you know if your chosen niche has buyers

I know that search figures dont always equate to buyers so I guess my question is

Is there a research method to give you an idea if your niche has buyers opposed to it being full of freebie seekers ?

Any insight into this would be gratefully appreciated

Thanks
William

You can find out quite easy by just spending about $100 to $200 via adwords and promote a affilaite product. That will give you a good idea fairly quickly and you won't have to rely on any "he said, she said" crap.

Either you make sales or you don't.

Ideally you at least break even to find out if there are buyers.

Maybe you get lucky and make a profit.

Worst case scenario, you throw away a small chunk of change that will save you a ton of time and future cash.

Another option - go to ClickBank marketplace and check existing products. If the combined gravity of top products is high - it means there are sales to be made.
If not - either the niche is too small, or all the competitors have bad salescopy (check their sites for salescopy).

This is really quick, and won't cost you a dime. After you do this - continue to checking with adwords as the other guys recommended.

You can write brief 6 page report about your niche. Buy adwords and see if people click on your ad. If they sign up send them the report and if there is demand up offer them the full ebook further on down the track. If there is no demand you have only had to write 6 pages rather than 50 pages.

    Hi William,

You could take a look at a marketplace that shows you directly what people are buying.

    Clickbank has already been mentioned.

Ebay is good for this as you can search completed listings for your niche and see what things actually sold.

Amazon is another good one as they post the products' sales rank. Even without a high sales rank, if you find multiple products related to your niche (say 10-20) then you can be assured there is definitely a market.

I think Phil has said it best. There are plenty of ways to find out if your niche is a selling one. If it's a physical product or group of products, you'll want to hit up eBay/Amazon and any other reputable vendor sites. Look around for forums dedicated to your niche and see if the posters themselves are buying. Compare multiple sites/forums to each other and see if you achieve similar results in terms of who's buying and who's not.

One more thing I'd like to mention is Craigslist. I know it might not be much, but I like to go on there and search for different keywords and always ask the sellers questions like if they're willing to shift on the price a little (or a lot), it helps gauge whether or not those sellers themselves think their physical products are selling (for example, weight loss pills or exercise machines if your niche is weight loss).

    Magazines.com
    Amazon.com

Check for product, and subscriptions at these sites... If a niche has a running magazine subscription, someone must be buying it

And amazon can lead you to more figures for product sales etc..

    Peace

I guess I can know that my niche has a buyers based on the product or the site. If your product or site is all about health care products then it is great because health care products have many buyers on it.
