Avast has some crazy heuristics algorithm which often labels safe programs as unsafe. Try scanning the file with some online scanner.

I received an email from him (on his mailing list) today saying his computer was hacked last week... might have something to do with it.

I have only been using avast for about a week now. I reformatted my hard drive and re installed xp decided to try avast on a recommendation. I have for the longest time been using AVG. I get a couple hundred emails a day this is the first one that triggered it.

I tried to forward it to my gmail account to see what would happen. Of course the window pops up again warning of a virus and do I want to send it. I click no, and then when I click on the email again in my inbox it now opens without any virus warning.

Inside I see where he mentions of being hacked and sample of code added within a iframe.

I know nothing about code, so this may be a totally dumb question but could his sample
of the iframe code in the email triggered avast?

Thanks, I kind of guessed it might have been that.

It will be a virus - there is a rash of very disturbing hacking and virus going on - Russian origin. They place redirect codes that appear to be real java scripts (called Java Redirects). These are nasty things that will create holes all over everything and eventually place rootkits.

If you have websites watch them very carefully. I have a master security tech on my main one and these guys ran a program for months to get in. They were caught right away after getting in but created some major havoc.

Sorry for the late reply. Just had this thread brought to my attention now. The e-mail waould have been fine. It's sent by Aweber.

I assume your software picked up on the example iframe code in it. Since the URL was removed, it is safe. The whole e-mail is a warning about the new hacking software and some things I to rectify the problem when my domain got hit, and for members to prevent this happening.
