How to Make an Income Claim

A number of WSOs have made income related claims and when asked for the proof behind the number cannot provide anything. They are making claims with numbers pulled out of the air because they sound good.

That is an invitation for a moderator to take down the offer and ban the seller for a time. It is, however, better than getting sued.

Here is a page by PayPal showing how to make similar claims where PayPal is referring to increasing sales by 20%:

https://financing.paypal.com/ppfinportal

You will see PayPal did a study to obtain the number. The number was not pulled out of the air. PayPal discloses the number of businesses in the study, the length of the study, when the study took place, and the size of the businesses that were involved.

This data, probably not coincidentally, happens to follow what the FTC has said should be disclosed when making income claims for business opportunities so that the basis for the claim can be evaluated.

I also suspect PayPal's legal team vetted the claim to ensure it was not a statistical outlier, and someone has a folder with a copy of the ad and behind it a copy of the proof. That is way it should be done.

Unfortunately, and it's a shame, Paypal's way is not the way of WF.

Why would anyone need to make income claims? It's not like everyone else doesn't already do it. Who cares if you make a lot of money? People don't give a damn, unless that is somehow going to make THEM lots of money. Otherwise, you're just another jackass posting stupid screenshots when the car you drive and the house you live in should speak for themselves. Seriously. Lame.

Reckon that's due to all the WSO's about how to sell WSO's, some are so ridiculous I'm surprised they ever sell one copy.

The axe is sure to fall at some point, (hopefully

I've been getting a LOT of income claim spam lately - and very suddenly. I haven't had spam like this stuff in a long time. So I'm sure there's people out there that don't yet realize the seriousness of the issue, Brian. Thanks for the thread. I always love to hear free advice from lawyers. I hope some of the other people on here take advantage of a freebie like this, too. I don't wanna know how much it would have cost to walk into your office to end up with the same advice.

I've never made an income claim on anything. Where I come from it's just plain classless to do so. Maybe the legalities will bring some of the claimers back into civilized society?

This sort of tactic is what gives the world of internet marketing a bad name.

Selling anything on this basis is sailing close to legality as the product isn't actually a product, the same way that the old classic scams of selling direct mail courses where the content tells you to run the same ad you just bought until someone green about the gills and desperate for money than you buys the same envelope from you. Sell 2 and you're in profit, but at what cost?

A good product shouldn't need to use these sorts of claims.
