Suggestions to Increase Value of eBay Auctions

It's been a while since I posted because I have really been trying to get after it with my ebay business.

I'm trying to think of ways to increase the perceived value of my ebay auctions.

I sell only a couple products in the home improvement niche.

I've been thinking about offering someone a bonus on all of my auctions if they go with "Buy It Now" so i thought I'd seek the input of some much better marketers than myself here at the WF.

My first thought has been to offer something that costs me less than $1 if they choose BIN.

Here's the thing though, it needs to be able to fit in a regular business envelope and get accepted by USPS as I ship my products using nothing more than a regular stamp.

If you guys have any input I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks so much

How about offering some sort of digital product as a bonus instead, you don't say exactly what items you sell, but if you can add value with tips, tricks or usage techniques then putting together a digital product might be a good value add and can be sent by email...

That's an excellent idea especially since I wouldn't need to buy anything and I could just include the link in the thank you email.

I like the "digital product as a bonus" idea, especially if it directly relates to the purchase. I've done this with a product in the health and diet niche and it's definitely improved sales. (found the digital product here on the Warrior Forum with PLR!)

A few other ways to increase the perceived value:

Great photography is a big deal on eBay. People often buy based on the quality of the images you use.

Use large images and increase the brightness and contrast on the images, which makes them "pop" more. Crop them closely so that the item takes up more of the image space.

Set the item at a dramatic angle and try to make it look like a pro product shot.

Free shipping also increases perceived value - if you can do this, it will help.

Test different listing formats - 3 / 5 / 7 day Auction... or Buy It Now... or Buy It Now with Make Offer... You'd be amazed at how different formats sell faster than others. (and it's different for each product)

Have you checked out Amazon as a place to sell these products? Sometimes Amazon is a better place then eBay and vice versa.

    Hope this helps!

What I've done when I was heavily selling on eBay was offer incentive to buy more than one item. At the time, I was selling small items that were heavy and charged around $6 for Priority Mail shipping. I offered free shipping if customer purchased $50+ worth of items and I believe that significantly increased my sales.

If you charge for shipping, you might consider something similar. If you have multiple products that a customer can buy, you might get more sales and more Buy It Now sales, especially if somebody has to buy only one more item to get free shipping.

Unless you're selling the deed to my next house or something I doubt that I would buy from you a second time. One of the biggest complaints eBay buyers have about sellers is how poorly they pack items they ship. I've been a constant eBay seller for most of a decade and I found early on that a great way to encourage repeat business is very nice-- even more expensive-- packaging. If it's any sort of collectible, for instance, your shipping method is entirely inadequate. The buyer should always be impressed by the package that comes from you.

As for encouraging immediate buying, I've found the preferred purchase method varies greatly depending upon the niche and item type. For instance, utilitarian needs like toner cartridges sell better as BIN, while art items sell better as auctions. If your market will benefit from the convenience of immediacy, simply post it as a fixed price item. I never use the "Buy It Now" option with auctions. I determine the best method for the product type and only sell using one method or the other.
