Any Other Mumpreneurs?

Hiya,

I <3 the term mumpreneur!

That's exactly what I am/do

Work from home so I can spend time with my children and family

I have had alot to do with the WF, launching, launch managing and coywriting, and its defiantly male dominated industry.

Just wondering where all the mums and all the ladies are on this forum?

How do find working in such a male dominated industry?

I don't really see it as a problem but would still love to connect with more women

Emma

Hi from another Aussie. I'm a homeschooling mum so most of my work is at home in front of my laptop. I do have a very part time job as a vet, just because I love it. Where in Aus are you?

I'm a new mompreneur - 9 month old baby and the business isn't that much older . It's been interesting trying to figure out how to give the baby the attention he needs while still getting work done. I'm loving it, though. I'd love to connect with other work-at-home moms!

    Hi all wonderful Moms,

I am a mumpreneur too. Being mother of 3 kids is not an easy task at all when you need to grow them alone. But I am happy to be here and meeting you great mumpreneurs. I would also love to join you all. Though I am new here but I am getting good response (I feel) here. Getting work for woman in a male dominated society is not easy but not that difficult also provided we deliver the quality. I feel woman is the best Manager as she can manage the home alongwith work very efficiently.

So Great cheers for all moms and mumpreneurs.

@ Preeti I think you are right about that. A mom's day doesn't end when she's done at work. Then it's time to switch hats and become caregiver, chef, teacher, nurse, maid and whatever else being a mom entails on any given day. Cheers to you for making it work!!

Thanks Audrey. Actually, my husband is fighting with a dreadful disease (HIV+) from July-August 2007. This WF account belongs to him, when he was alright he use to be very active here and earning little money from IM along with his job. Approx. 10-11 months back I joined in here to earn for my family as I left my 12 yrs corporate job to take care of husband and 3 kids.

In the beginning I was quite disappointed but after a period of approx. 6-7 months, I started getting work from Warriors. I am highly grateful to all of them. Though I am still in the learning process as before this I never knew anything about Wordpress, HTML, PLR customization, photoshop, graphics etc. All this I am learning from my husband who is not in position to work at all.

Now I feel if there is a will there is a way.We only need to recognize that path.

      Thanks again.

I'm not a mom, but I AM a woman. Does that count?

IM IS a male-dominated industry. But I got off of the Warrior Forum a long time ago and into a world where I'm working primarily with women. I follow/buy from primarily women:

          1. Ali Brown -- Ali Brown - Entrepreneur Mentor Featured on ABC's Secret Millionaire", Small Business Coach and Consultant for Women
          2. Fabienne Fredrickson -- Client Attraction: Where Women Entrepreneurs Play Big
          3. Lisa Sasevich -- The Invisible Close | Sales Techniques | Lisa Sasevich
          4. Carrie Wilkerson -- Barefoot Executive

          etc...

So while IM is a male-dominated industry, I haven't felt that in a LONG time. I've been surrounded by women, which I love. I love the men too and have no problem with them. But when it comes to modeling someone else's business, the men just don't cut it for me.

If I'm trying to create a business, looking at most of the men's businesses does NOT help. The cheesy sites and graphics, copy like "ninja tricks and tactics" and "dominate and CRUSH the competition" just make me roll my eyes. I don't normally talk that way and it just wouldn't sound authentic coming out of my mouth anyway.

My own mentor is Sheri Keys of the Smart Women's Institute (Smart Women Institute | Home for Positive Transformation). I LOVE what she does and how she does it. She coached me for two years and it's been a privilege to be in her programs.

One of my colleagues is Theresa Cennicola of the International Christian Mompreneur Network (International Christian Mompreneur Network | Support and Training for Mom Entrepreneurs). Theresa is building a network of Christian Mompreneurs and I just love her work! (Her site is gorgeous too!)

Even if you're not specifically a Christian, you'd probably get a lot of value out of the community and support of such a network. I HIGHLY recommend you take a look at what Theresa has to offer.

Theresa is one of my mastermind colleagues and I've had the privilege of meeting her in person to be coached by our mutual mentor Sheri Keys. She's a lovely, lovely lady and I think you'd love her and her work.

          Hope this helps!

            This.

There are actually far more women here than is apparent from our profiles. If I were a non-member joining the Warrior Forum today, knowing what I know now, I definitely wouldn't use my real name and probably wouldn't even give away that I'm female.

Sorry I missed this earlier. Just to clarify:

I'm like you: I don't care if the marketer is a man or a woman. If I want what he/she is selling, then I'm buying. (The standard know/like/trust factor applies, of course.)

As I advanced in my IM education and experience though, I was looking for someone to MODEL, not just learn from. And I'm not talking just about HOW they do business. This really isn't about the mechanics of business. It's more about style and WHO that person is.

It was really completely unconscious in the beginning. It started with me buying from Ali Brown and a key reason I bought from her was because her audience was "real" business owners, not other wanna-be IMers. (I hate the incestuous nature of IM.)

Ali is VERY feminine and I loved her style, although I'm not nearly as polished and high-class as she is. But it was my first real exposure to how a woman approached IM, the language, the style, the writing, etc.

Through Ali, I got to know other ladies, including Lisa Sasevich and Fabienne Fredrickson. Along the way, I also stumbled across Carrie Wilkerson. I LOVED her style and learning from her. And it was another lesson in a more feminine way of doing things. (Or at least NOT a "Kowabunga, dude!" style. )

Again, keep in mind I wasn't specifically going out looking for women. I just stumbled across them and loved what they did and HOW they did it. It was a gradual thing until I found I was mostly buying from women.

And I could MODEL not only what they did (the how-to's), but HOW they did it (the style, language, etc.) in a way that was much for authentic for me to model. I was observing how to be a WOMAN in business.

It's really about style and nuances, nothing particularly earth-shattering. And in the beginning, my choices to buy from women were quite unintentional. I was buying the info and their gender made little difference to me. (As a woman, their messages and communication DID resonate with me more...)

And then, through Ali, I was introduced (again) to my mentor Sheri. Sheri had founded and ran the National Association of Women Writers (NAWW) for 10 years. As a writer, I already knew of NAWW and Sheri, but for various reasons, didn't pay much attention. So I was re-introduced to her and some work she was doing that I hadn't known about.

I'd previously spent a LOT of money over the years on various courses and other information products. Now I was ready for coaching and I immediately fell in love with Sheri's style. I loved her personality and style and immediately decided she was the right coach for me.

Coaching is a much more personal and intimate experience than just learning from a course. I think you can have 10 coaches all offering essentially the same thing, but one or two will match YOUR personality and style more than the others.

And I think it's important to pick a coach YOU resonate with. If you're coaching with someone who gets on your nerves, then you won't get as much out of it, even if the actual information and coaching is top notch. (Sandi Krakowski is a good example of someone who just gets on my nerves. She's perfectly legit and helps a lot of people, but she is NOT for me! She really sets my teeth on edge.)

I picked Sheri as much for the example she modeled by WHO she was and HOW she did things as for the actual A-B-C's of business she could teach me. In a lot of ways, she embodies who I want to be when I grow up.

I also keep loose tabs on the MLM industry and more recently, found myself drawn to and listening to a woman who's been highly successful in MLM. I'm on her list, look forward to her e-mails and watch a lot of her videos. And yes, I've bought from her. Again, it was completely unconscious at the time, but it WAS about her style and personality. I didn't deliberately go looking for a woman in MLM and choose to exclude men. It just sort of happened. Again, I'd subconsciously chosen a woman based on personality and style.

Don't worry. I still buy from men...like PLF from Jeff Walker. (I like his style too. )

              I hope that makes sense!

Maybe it's just this forum then, lots more men than ladies here. I work from home as a free lancer so it's a little isolating, hard to tell what else is actually out there, a bit like living in a solo IM bubble The SEO forum is particularly macho hehehe but I know for sure that women excel at IM, I've met a few throughout the years, very successful.

I completely agree, Kim. It's never struck me (especially when compared with other activities/professions/careers) that internet marketing is "male-dominated" at all.

I keep thinking the word "mumpreneur" could mean "someone who catches mumps" ...

I dunno about that . . . true, I've only bee here a few weeks, but it certainly seems to be overwhelmingly male (not that that's a bad thing). I totally agree that women make excellent managers and are adept at multi-tasking, which are both are very important components of IM.

        Good luck to everyone!!

I've never really thought of it as being male dominated as such, but I think Kim's right, there are more guys posting on the forum than girls. The challenge for me is juggling children, job, business, chores.... my most disliked part of the day is when I have to make dinner. It would be easier without children at foot but I like having them around.

I reckon my 13 year old is going on 35, Kim :-)

Hey girls, yea, I'm a "mumpreneur" too

I've been at this full time for a few years now doing a little bit of everything, mostly local seo these days as that has been pretty easy money for the past three years.

The hardest part for me, like a few of you, is juggling time. I have found it hard to focus, when I'm "stopping and starting" all day long to keep the home running smooth. My youngest is now 16 so it's a little easier but still...

Is this a male dominated industry? I think that at first glance it appears to be but I believe that's only because most of us are so busy trying to get our work in as well as trying to maintain privacy for security reasons.

This thread immediately caught my attention. I'm a mum...2 under 2 and one on the way and our income is primarily from my online business. I don't know if this is a male dominated industry, I haven't really felt that way. But it's great to be around women; there's an empathy that's usually missing from men and my mentor IS a woman and she's on this forum and on this thread

I just "liked" the Fb page and I hope it really picks up.

I don't think there is anything wrong with following powerful, successful women's careers and life's work. I am a woman, that doesn't make me any less valuable than a man but it DOES make me different. Some of this stuff is just biological (and anatomical ). Even if we take away the obvious differences between men and women I still have common ground with other women because we may share similar experiences, similar challenges. Have you ever felt like someone didn't take you seriously because you are a woman? Or doubted your abilities or knowledge based on that alone? Ever felt dismissed? We've come a long way but we aren't at equality yet. There are women on this forum from countries where there is still a LOT of work to be done on that front. Why not have and follow strong female role models?

If anyone here is interested in networking there is a regular group of people who meet in an online chatroom on a Saturday afternoon/evening/night

    International Marketing Chat

Saturday Chat | IM Ladies The Divas of Internet Marketing

Starts at 21.00 GMT (That is 9pm in the UK)

The core group are all Ladies over 21 (OK I am trying to be delicate, but I was the youngest last week and I am 43!)

It is not actually aimed at ladies, or mums! It is actually an "International" group - but we welcome anyone who wants to talk marketing and be sensible ish!

(Just to avoid confusing or accusations of impropriety I am a moderator of the chat - but not the owner.

Hope to see some of you on Saturday

My wife is a mempreneur and loves it. The freedom of working from home has really helped with the kids and school, etc. Now if I could only (finally) be a dadpreneur...

I know I'm not a mum, but my wife is and from what we've learned and seen, women are fab at IM, they just get on with things and just know that it will turn out ok.
Reminds me of a quote, can't remember who - 'While men figure out which forms etc are needed to arrange a cleaner for the office, the women just grab the broom...'
We men could learn a lot from that!

I'd never heard that name before. I am a mom at home and I take care of 99% of our online business. Our kids are grown and moved out but we started this biz when then younger one was at home. I dont want to work for someone else, I'd have to be in a bad financial way to consider that.

I havent found any issues dealing with men even tho our biz is more for guys than women. Guys are generally impressed at my knowledge of car paint!

Aloha fellow mumpreneurs! I am a work at home mom of two toddlers (4 year old boy and 1 year old girl) from the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii Working from the comfort of my home and family since 2008.

I am a Published Author, Online Business and Marketing Coach and Graphics Designer.

I just love working from home even if I have to balance among the demands of motherhood, being a wife, struggling with and beating an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto's Thyroiditis or Severe Hypothyroidism (since 2006) and Bronchial Asthma; helping others through online business and marketing coaching/mentoring, and writing my books.
