where to host online training videos ?

Hi there,

I am in the process to create a substantial video training course for my niche. It will be 11 courses with each 100-200 MB. It's a niche high in demand and I have a list to promote it too so I assume it will be selling fast. However, my concern is that the server doesn't really sustain the video watching/downloads when products goes online. I was thinking of uploading to a private Youtube channel but does that come across is non-professional.

Where do you guys host reliable video training courses ?

Cheers
Thomas

A lot of people host videos on Amazon servers. It's fast and reasonably priced.

I don't think youtube would be too bad though. If you embed the videos on your site and use some api parameters to hide extraneous stuff the videos can look pretty good.

I like to set it so that the controls fade quickly and no related videos are shown at the end.

Google is the best platform for videos and optimization, Create the videos and then create a playlist, then embed them on your site... This way only your videos will play and not anyone' else's.

I would use amazon S3/cloudfront as they are cheap and you have complete control of your content. You don't want to be selling a course with 10, 20, some-odd videos then start getting refunds because Youtube, Google, Vimo, etc. deleted your account. It could happen.

Don't think your competitors won't be buying your product to see what you got. If you host your videos on Youtube and the likes it would be rather easy for them to get 'em taken down if they wanted. And who doesn't have a competitor that wouldn't like to see their competition gone?

You can make use of Vimeo professional account if you want to host large video files. When you have an account with them, you will be able to remove the Vimeo logo from the video and your customers will not be able to know that the video from there.

It has large storage space and the video loads quite fast. You can consider it if you are offering video tutorials.

I use Amazon S3 and they're reliable and very cheap.

In fact, you only pay for what you use.

If you are serious about things then use a service like Amazon S3 so you have complete control. As others have mentioned, having your videos hosted on sites such as Youtube or even Vimeo is just too open to abuse and doesn't give a very professional feel to your product.

gogvo.com is where I host my training videos. They have video hosting that is only $7.97 per month. I have a dedicated server there also so I don't know if it is for the public or not.

I can upload unlimited videos and keep them private.

    I hope this is helpful,

I have been using amazon s3 for around a year and a half and its awesome

It's the same server that amazon themselves host their own videos and images for their pages so you can bet that it's excellent

I would not even think about anything else other than amazon s3... now go buy it :-)

I'll looked into these before as well but the question I had with vimeo pro is that they say "up to 250,000 plays" or something along those lines. So does that mean that once a video reaches 250,000 plays that users won't be able to watch that video on my site?

I know that's quite a bit of plays, but still seems limiting especially if you plan on having some pretty heavy traffic. I currently host all my videos on Youtube, which I know is risky but I'm also starting to put stuff elsewhere. The reason I have my videos on Youtube was to gain an audience and also because I didn't want to have an excuse to not start. With Youtube it was pretty simple and quick to start and I've been doing it since.

*Edit* So I posted this question in the video forum, but what can I do to monetize videos that I host myself? Other than memberships and selling them. Is there a way I can utilize ads on them? I use Youtube right now and I'm making some money with adsense but I'd like to be able to keep everything in my control. Thoughts?

Yes, the total video views on your channel can be 250,000. That includes all video plays. I believe they send you a warning if you are getting close to that limit since they do have optional packages where you can buy an extra 100,000 views, etc. But from what I remember those upgrades aren't exactly cheap.

That's what I figured. I remember reading that "buying extra views" was just as expensive as renewing your subscription ($199). That's what they were saying in the FAQ which makes me think that Vimeo Pro really isn't the best solution if you're planning on having high traffic to your videos. I'm sure if you're getting over 250k plays per video you could probably afford it if you're utilizing that traffic wisely, but it'll add up.

I have an Amazon S3 account. Just curious what's your preferred method of serving to your site?

What's your favorite wordpress plugin for it?

I want to make sure I'm mobile-enabled this time.

I use Amazon S3 and good ol' fashioned YouTube as well.

Those have worked great for me!

EDIT: Oh I sometimes use Vimeo also. The videos end up looking really clean when they stream from Vimeo.
