Anyone care to recommend a wordpress plugin they use to collect email addresses?

As per question really, if anyone would be so kind as to share what they use to good effect? There are plenty to choose from but I have never really used one before. I am assuming a plugin in some form of widget that I could put on the sidebar of a page?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated

    Hi Alan -

I don't use a plugin or widget from Wordpress to collect email addys unless it is connected to a specific autoresponder company - like Aweber or Get Response. Otherwise, what can you do with the emails? Most companies do not let you automatically import email without a double optin and you can't mass mail from your personal server without getting squashed.

Maybe you are collecting for another reason that isn't obvious to me at the moment?

I used Wysija for a while and I think it is exactly what you are looking for. It is free and works well, but if you are serious about collecting emails I would highly recommend that you use a paid service like aweber or getresponse.

These services give you a lot more control and give you better delivery rates. It is worth the extra cost. Once I upgraded to aweber I never looked back.

    Hi, thanks for the replies.

As I said I haven't done this before, and thought it would be a good idea to get the webpage set up with a box, then write the report (as I doubt it will get many emails right away so I could write the report over the next couple of days). I assumed that aweber or similar would simply offer a bit of code that goes into the admin of wordpress via a plug in, similar to analytics......I did not know that aweber offer the actual structure of the box to put on the page!!!

    Many thanks for that, doh!

Use a text widget, and embed the AWeber code for the opt-in box (or GetResponse if you prefer)
