What makes YOU so special?

Honestly, if you can't answer that question in 30 seconds or less... you'll have a hard time convincing people to buy from you and not another business.

Heck, I've spent days walking around doing nothing but thinking of ways my
businesses were different than competitors.

It's THAT important to be unique/better/faster/cheaper/stronger/easier to use, etc....

I'm a BIG fan of Shark Tank... and if you've seen the show, you know that Mr. Wonderful, Kevin O' Leary, almost always mentions that the product can be
knocked off, that there's nothing proprietary, etc...

So it's important that you find out what really makes you different and better than the others in your market... and try to think of ways to prevent competitors from taking what you do and doing it better.

Heck, billion dollar companies exist purely with the sole intentions
of knocking products off and just coming out with a cheaper version.

So price is almost NEVER the best way to distinguish yourself from
the competition. Think of things you can do or offer that others can't.

Even Papa John's created a billion dollar brand by just using better
cheese, sauce, and crust. So just trying to think of ways you're different
or better can pay off huge in the end...

      Drunk people eat a lot of pizza?

      I agree, their pizza isn't great. Domino's newer pizza
      seems to be ok, but i miss being in NY for the pizza alone!

      Because it is the best out of the worst pizza chains. Papa John's to me is heaven compared to Dominos and Pizza Hut.

    I have the Best customer service level with being a person of high integrity while delivering unique services while always over delivering!

    That's what works for me.

    Having a Unique Selling Point (USP) is what puts you above your competition, but if you don't over deliver with a high level of customer service, then nothing else matters..

    Just my 2 cents

    Knowing how to market your products is a big plus. Like Papa Johns. I don't think their pizza is good, like another has mentioned in their post. But they market their product enough, they get a percentage that will like their pizza, which they have succeeded obviously.

    I grew up around people who constantly told me I wouldn't amount to anything and I got bad grades in school.

    Now, I probably make more money than 99% of them.

    I take a "starving artist" approach to everything meaning I have undying faith in everything I do and I strive harder to succeed.

    Bill Gates is standing next to Steve Jobs backstage at a convention...Jobs has just found out that Gates pirated the Mac OS, called it "Windows", and was now selling it in Japan and soon America.

    Give people what they need. Simple as that.

      Or not. No-one buys what they need.

      They buy what they WANT.

      I recently found a more "spiritual" side to myself. Doesn't mean I believe in a god(s) suddenly, just that I've found the value of things like the I Ching and meditation. If it teaches me one thing alone, it would have been worth it. That thing?

        I actually think you both are right... people buy what they WANT and what they NEED.

        I don't really need a new car if my old one works just fine. But I sure do
        WANT one.

        And I don't really WANT a heart transplant... but if I'm gonna die without one, I guess I NEED one more than want one.

        So I think people buy for both reasons, because they want and need.

        I buy a lot of things i don't need... but i want them. like those g*ddamn baked goods i eat every night. my ass don't need them, but I want them.

        but i also buy a lot of things i don't want... but NEED... like TP or medications.

        so yeah, both work.

          I read it not long ago, but already knew that you buy because you want and you justify because you need.

          I used to sell HR events and I sold by highlighting their wants first. I even got a couple to come just because of the location...and then after they wanted to come, sorted their needs for justification.

    I don't try to be better than the completion, hell I ain't that good. I like you spend time thinking how to better my business but not during the day walking around, at night sitting by a nice campfire with cold drink in hand, that's just me.

    This got me thinking. I better start figuring out what makes me special. Marketing is quite difficult for the inexperience just as myself. I think this has to do with the ability to convince people to want what you're offering them. So it's important to know your products and services. Just the approach though. I just can't figure out how to do that as I said I am no expert in this one.

      Xen, you don't need much in the way of marketing know how to make yourself special. You need self belief and determination.

      There's no technique available for this. No matter how much advice guru's can give it's still up to you.

      The No.1 way to succeed at ANYTHING in life, be it marketing, football, painting or music is hard work.

      Put in the time on yourself. On your product. On your audience. You'lll reap the benefits afterwards.

      There's no quick fix to life.

    I agree that you have to know what makes you special at what you do. If you can not answer it, or do not know, how is anyone to take you seriously? You have to know what makes you do what you do well.

    I feel that once everyone finds out what makes them special, they are able to see their own worth much more.
