Congratulations Antony!

My philosophy is:

If it works, use it.
If not, throw it away.

So, learn from your first sale using Google Analytics. Research such data as:

Where your traffic is coming from (organic search, ads, etc.).
What keywords you were found for.
What your bounce rate is.
etc., etc., etc.

Test and evaluate.

Then tweak and perfect your site and repeat the whole process.

When you find the winning formula, scale it up and perfect it.

Good luck and never give up.

The niche is within home and gardening on Amazon. Basically I've had a look around for some mid to high ticket items (higher priced products) and found something around the $600 to $1000 mark. After a lot of keyword research I figured I could create a website that wouldn't have too hard a time receiving traffic.

The reviews are full 500+ word reviews in an honest and second person narrative. I don't lie and pretend I own the products but take what information is available on the product, and put it all in a helpful format for the reader. I also provide in insight into actual Amazon reviews, pros and cons etc. For this website I've only chosen the best selling products so the majority are good reviews anyway.

The theme that I used is the ProReview theme which does take a bit of tweaking to make it look good, but it's clean and so far effective.

With the lowest affiliate rate I think I got $28 from my first sale - the other three sales have actually been other products - two related and one $300 gift card. As mentioned, what I have done so far needs some tweaking and I plan to work on:

Building More Traffic - Most likely just through article marketing and writing more content for the site. I could use social media and other marketing methods but I want to keep it simple for the moment. I don't want to experiment with PPC advertising just yet and might not for these affiliate sites.

Increasing Click Through and Conversion - At the moment the links are just used in the call to action and with the "Visit Website" button that comes with the theme. I will add a few more links within each review. I might also see if I can improve my preselling so that the visitor is in more of a "buying mode" when they click through.

Increasing the Affiliate Rate - I might build a couple of sites that sell lots of low prices items. The idea here is to sell more stuff to increase the affiliate rate, and as a result make more money when the higher priced items sell.

I'll spend more time looking at the analytics to see how I can get better results. I also need to refine the process of building, marketing and managing the sites so I can build more of them without overwhelming myself.

Really well done,i get around 171/180 clicks a day and only get a hand full of sales per week.Sometimes i can go weeks even with the same amount of traffic!

Obviously iam doing it the wrong way and you are doing it right!

I always use a keyword density of 1% and use the All in One SEO plugin. I always use the relevant keyword in the title, description and meta data.

That's outstanding. Now just scale it. You're fortunate to have a content generating team ... you can really scale up your content fast. It's the content that takes a long time to generate. Plus, if they're good writers or at least decent, you can use them for guest posting. You're in a very good position now that you've established a system that works for you!!

Since commission for Amazon affiliates is so low, it takes a lot of patience and optimism to stick with it. You need to keep publishing review sites, or whatever it is that you do, even if things seem futile at first. Otherwise, it is so easy to give up. If I only saw "peanuts" coming in, I would probably lose all motivations to keep going. It is really a number's game. Once you put enough out there and passes the mysterious "threshold", the tide begins to turn to your favor.

You need to do much more than just write high quality content and wait for visitors to turn up. You need to get your content in front of the people who want to see it, you need to work out who your target market are, where they hang out and who has their attention and get your content or adverts in front of them. You need to be pro-active in this respect.

The OP's strategy of just adding articles to a few article directories isn't enough in most cases. You need to diversify your traffic, bring in people from multiple avenues, and work hard at getting new people on to your site as well as retaining your current visitors.

It's always a fantastic feeling whenever your work pays off. I remember my first ever Amazon associates commission. That few cents felt like I have earned $100's...

Well done dude. I decided just after Christmas that is was going to go after amazon this year if nothing else but testing. I have on broad niche website (only 40ish posts so far) making daily sales and have just started a niche website that is on page one with zero content so far. The first site I mentioned gets 100-600 visitors a day, within a few months. It is easy money. The trick is, have 10-20 websites and have enough quality content for all.

Keep going. I amusing a few plugins that really help with rankings. PM for the info.

That's great to hear! Right now Amazon seems to be the place to be to sell products, and it comes up organically in Google.

Article marketing is one of the best ways to drive traffic to Amazon (regardless if it helps your PR with Google). Post up a couple of helpful articles with some Amazon links that you drive traffic to, and you should get some really good conversions.

As I have been saying for years Amazon is a great way to make some decent money online and a great way to get started online and a beginner can quickly see some sales and realize that you really can make money online, once they see those first few sales it is enough encouragement to ramp it up and get to a point where it is a nice consistent montly income.

I've made a few bucks with Amazon but I've never taken it seriously..

May do some niche sites in the future but for now, I'll stick to services, products and affiliate marketing

Amazon is a great place to start if you are new at affiliate marketing and congratulations on the results. You have a head start with your own content creators on board. Start targeting a few low competition keywords/products and you should ramp up your sales easily.

One thing that sucks about amazon is that you cant opt for the KDP option (free give away) if you are currently selling your digital book elsewhere( guess it sort of makes sens though), but amazon certainly appears to be a highly effective mode for getting your books out there. The only thing that is not the greatest about amazon is that when someone purchases your ebook, it is technically only leased to them, and amazon can confiscate it back anytime they wish.

  Wow! That's a nice amount you're earning there. Right now that amount doesn't even seem reality to me. But I am really starting to focus on Amazon because of the mass potential it has.

  However, the route you are going can sometimes be tough and take a long time.
  I would suggest you invest some time (and money) in an Amazon FBA course.

congratulation mate! Amazon affiliate marketing has proven to be a good way to earn some bucks. Not a while ago, I just made around 100 bucks from them, so glad to do it. One thing that intrigue me while doing this business is my bounce rate. Even though my bounce rate is pretty high, there is always some people who buy my product. I have my confidence in my product review after all.

nice works! glad you made it trough, some people will give up after trying Amazon affiliate without knowing their mistake. You are not one of them, you don't give up, you learn your mistake, and keep moving forward. You earn it! I am curious about your sales funnel though. Nothing happen in the past few month, and suddenly BOOM, you got some hard earned cash in there.

I made my first sale from an ugly autoblog :-) An office chair to be precise and since then I changed a lot in my strategy. Great to see you found something that works for you! For me high quality sites with reviews work best, far better than my autoblog did.

So yes it works and no, there isn't a magic bullet ;-)
