Amazon Orders Vs Amazon Earnings.

I noticed a couple of months back that my Amazon co.uk affiliate links were bringing in a lot more orders in terms of orders placed, but the actual reports for items delivered ( thus making me money ) was a lot less.

Over Christmas break I spoke to 7 friends of mine who live all around the UK and sent them the url of a site of mine, so they could order from amazon through my link so I could keep a check on orders etc.

Out of 11 different orders placed, 11 items were received in the post / by courier yet on my amazon reports, the 11 items were shown as ordered through this specific website, yet there were only 6 marked as dispatched. This is a huge disparity, as I only earn commission on despatched/delivered orders.

Is anyone else noticing these problems ?

Any ideas please ?

I have noticed this as well, my traffic goes up weekly but my orders seem to be getting almost none existent.

Iam getting around 500/600 clicks a month?

In fact from after christmas i have only made five sales and three of them came last week!

Is it possible that what was ordered is not part of the commission plan? Amazon does have exclusions where an affiliate does not earn a commission. You will have to check their terms pages as these items can be normally non-comm or seasonally change.

Keep watching your sales reports, Amazon also gets behind in reporting. If none of the above helps, perhaps contact them and see if they can tell you why -- especially if you think you have recurring problems.

Yes there was quite a bit of excluded products especially Apple products

Here is the current exclusion list

It might not be wise to contact them and tell them you sent family and friends to purchase from your site since that is against TOS i believe

    Kickin it on Amazon

Pretty much thoughts on the subject as well. With the exception indicated by Gaz:

Yes, either selling high ticket items that are not on the exclusion list, or selling an ebook are the two ways to go with Amazon.

Yes its true it is around 6%,starts at around 4% and goes up to around 10% depending on how many sales you make.

Some people on the forum generate a living through Amazon but personally i find it very hard especially with the small referral rates!

6% after 7 sales but the max payout is 8.50% after 3,000 sales in a given month or something (10%-15% on some special items as for example magazines).

Many think the Amazon affiliate program sucks because many other retailers often pay up to twice the commission percentage. It is low compared to other retailers yes, but I haven't earned more from other retailers than I do from Amazon mainly because people trust Amazon and like to shop there so my links converts pretty well. But the one thing I hate is the silly 24 hour cookie. It should have been 90 days or something, but Amazon has set it to only 24 hours so the affiliates loose a lot of commission there.

It's most likely items that are on the exclusion list.

If you do mention family and friends to Amazon be sure to clarify that you didn't just email them a direct link to the product; you can't do that.

      Thanks for the replies folks.

These were basic items including a dvd, a Tom Tom sat nav, a couple of books; so nothing weird and wonderful.

My understanding though was that the sellers get paid, after the goods are ( marked as and then ) dispatched.

I'll wait to see what come through from this last month and if need be will contact Amazon about this.

Not sure what this will be, contact them and leave out the fact that you got someone to test through your affiliate link.

To post #2 - this is just down to the products really, it is MUCH easier to do with with Amazon over Christmas, to do well through out the year you need to pick the right products.

I used to have this kind of problem. However, after few months Amazon gave me back the commission by altering the monthly earning at the end of that particular month.

Amazon associates is a little odd for me too. Basically, you only get a comission if the product is shipped by amazon ( not by other sellers selling on amazon ), and if the user add the product to the basket in the first session of shopping. If he clicks on a banner ad or something, you may lose the comission.
