What software is best for making training videos, eg. blank screen with text on it ? Most of what I've looked at is ok for screen capture, but I can't figure out how to just have plain text

    Hi Louise,

You might be surprised to learn I use Camtasia for just such a technique as you've described.

In fact, if you know how to bend it to your will, Camtasia is far more that just a screen-capture program.

You can use it for sales letters, for example.

How you do it is create a 30 second strip of pure white video, using Sony Vegas - or even the free Moviemaker that comes with Windows. Make it in .mp4 format.

Load that to Camtasia and those the amazing range of callouts to put the text on it, which you can enhance with arrows and other effects - even cartoons.

    Warmest regards,

    Paul

If you want to stack the copywriting deck in your favor with tricks and hacks producing winners like: "$20K in three days" "650 sold" "30% conversion", then you might like to know I'm retiring and will spill the beans to two people. More info here.

I also would recommend Camtasia for this purpose. But rather than doing what was recommended above, Camtasia already comes with a plugin for Powerpoint so you can create a text powerpoint presentation like you are used to seeing in all those sales videos and then it will simply record the powerpoint presentation as you talk people through it.

That's much easier than having to go through and do callouts for each bit of text.

Yes, I agree about PowerPoint, but I find it more flexible doing it the way I described, because you can do things far easier (like adding cartoons) working direct on Camtasia than with PowerPoint.

But it's a good point you make about PowerPoint, if you just want text, like Louise described.

      Warmest regards,

      Paul

You're not just limited to text in Powerpoint. You can change backgrounds, add transition effects, add images, anything. I think it actually gives you more flexibility than Camtasia for these types of presentations.

Camtasia is awesome and you can even do this on Windows Movie maker if you want to go really basic.

You could make the screens in photoshop and then just load them in.

There's a ton of ways to do this. For free, use Paint and Movie Maker, both already installed on your PC.

If you want the best for text, the Proshow Gold is superior to Camtasia for adding text to slides. It has a free trial and after that is $75, far less expensive than Camtasia + Powerpoint. And again, Proshow Gold is much better with text.

Here's a sample text based video I made with Proshow:

Cam Studio 2.7 is coming. This is a new version FREE program. I am not an AFF, but here is the link for you. Hope you can use it. Cam Studio is a screen capture program. It works great with narration and grabbing screens. Camtasia is better, but it is expensive.

Camtasia for PC and Screenflow for Mac. I like Screenflow best but you can make serious money with either one.

Camtasia and Powerpoint are essential tools for my online business. I would be totally lost without them. One other later addition is my condenser mic

But with these tools I cam make many different types and styles of videos.

    As You are Newbie,

I can shock you that, Now A days even Photoshop too is Armed with Video Creation Capabilities.............The Kind of Videos You want to Create Simple White BG and Text over it....can be achieved very easily in Photoshop...............Earlier they had Image Ready along with Photoshop which only allowed GIF animations.........but now they had removed Image Ready from their arsenal and Have revolutionized Photoshop Itself....NoDoubt PowerPoint or Movie Maker ( Windows Products I guess if I am not wrong ) are The Most Easeast sources to do the stuff................

On the expert Side you can also use Adobe After Effects or Adobe Premiere too ( this is not for Beginers..........but they are pretty easy for any one to learn in no time ) I am being using these packages and 3D Studio Max since last 12 Years

    regards
