Sent an email today and made a sale...

it works

I don't know if it was just plain luck but I sent an email to my list and made a sale.

I want to start emailing my list properly now and on a regular basis, I haven't been simply because I felt abit clueless

To be honest I do have a decent enough sized list now - how can I learn email marketing properly, are there any training courses or guides out there where I could learn how to do this properly

Great feeling isn't it? keep doing more of what your doing and build a relationship with your list by giving them some really good content and sharing your stories with them and getting them to interact with you. You will see that sale duplicate.

Great Job and keep it up, I'm rooting for you.

Google "cloud blueprint" and look at the Viperchill website. Glenn is the man and he has a great strategy on how often to email a list. Watch all the videos.

Oh and the best part is it's free!

Just keep it simple. Send them things that are actually beneficial to them, and don't hound them.

    Random example:

Over the past few months I've been learning to play the guitar and decided to subscribe to the newsletter of one of the most popular tutors on YouTube. The amount of emails I receive is annoying. 3+ a day in some cases. Which made me much less interested in purchasing what he was selling.

You're probably gonna want a longer autoresponder series to constantly follow up with your subscribers so you can do everything on autopilot.

I only have an open rate of 20% at the moment, but I know this is because my list is cold after not emailing them very often. I am hoping to turn this around!

    Hey Moneyland!

A lot of people will tell you list is money, though I'd say your relationship with the list is money.

It's all about trust and engagement.

If you are keen to build a responsive list, I highly recommend "Autoresponder Madness" by Andre Chaperon. I heard that he's running a birthday special offer, so you may want to considering buying it at discounted rate now.

Any info as to how I can find details of a special offer for the Autoresponder Madness course. Couldn't see anything on website - is there an offer on this forum  Appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction

You absolutely need provide value to your subscribers. If that's just affiliate products you promote you have to be different from hundreds of other affiliates that promote the same stuff. That means adding something from "just you", the reason to buy from you. Not someone else.

There is no luck with list if you are doing things properly. There is money in the list.

    2. Product relevant offer

Email marketing is a very powerful way of generating some quick traffic either for your own website or as an affiliate.

Just make sure you play by the rules and dont over use your list. Keep it under a limit.

If you Google 'solo ad reviews', one of the top results is a review site of some of the best solo ad providers. Or you can try safeswaps, they have good solo ad providers too but be sure to chek the reputation first.

I found a guy online who had great reviews and so sent my ad details. I paid $40 for 125 unique clicks. The seller over delivered on clicks and I ended up getting 72 opt-ins and one OTO sale of $9.99. This works out at $30.01 spent to get 72 opt-ins. This is $0.41 per subscriber. Not bad at all!

If you PM me I can put you in touch with the guy I used for this.

Hey ! Great...now you've told yourself that you can do it, you will get more confident. Keeping your list happy with only good quality products, that you have or would buy is a must. Give them a free report or ebook now and then, just so you're not always selling. I would look to all the emails you get sent and keep them in a folder, so that you can get an idea of how to structure the email, but change it to how you speak, so that your list feels comfortable. Good luck

Setup an autoresponder and mail them quality articles in your niche once in two days. Don't try to sell anything in those articles instead try to interact with them. Send them a mail promoting your offer once a week. Hope it will surely help you.

Remember not to sell to them all the time.
80% good info and 20% selling.

You know, really, that this isn't enough, I think?

I'm guessing that when you say "occasional emails", you're talking about "broadcasts"? Personally, I hardly ever use "broadcasts" at all, for all the reasons explained in this thread: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7301227 (and stopping using broadcasts was a very favorable development for my overall income).

You need a proper autoresponder series. What you're doing at the moment, one way or another, is sifting muddy water for gold, finding plenty of gold and then letting almost all of it slip through your fingers again. You know this really, right?

      Ouch! :p

There'll be people here who'll tell you that a 20% open-rate is above average "for the industry" and that houshold name marketers have lower open-rates than that. Whatever you do, don't listen to them. Some household-name marketers do have lower open-rates than that, but they have totally different business models from yours and mine, and operate a very high-turnover, churn-and-burn, SEO-based system which has nothing to do with your article marketing business or mine at all. You and I need (and can learn to get) a much higher open-rate than that. It's a real learning-curve. List-building and list-communications are pretty hard work. But not as hard as convincing yourself that a 20% open-rate is "better than average in this industry".

If the traffic is coming from search engines, a 20% open-rate is one thing; but for article marketing traffic it's another thing altogether.

Sure ... well, you know what the problem is, which is fine. You'll turn it around.

It'll be far easier to improve the open-rate for people you're about to sign up than people who have already signed up. Open-rates are determined by things that happen immediately before, while, and immediately after people sign up. To change them later is really difficult. It's true that you can, to a small degree, with things like "different subject lines" in emails, but it's tough, and those differences are going to be pretty small. That's mopping up the floor rather than turning off the tap.

As the saying goes, it's easier to give birth than it is to raise the dead.

So, here are three threads whose contents can help you increase your open-rate a lot ...

      (i) http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6123982

      (ii) Contacting your subscribers: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5300985

(iii) What you're giving them in exchange for their email address (this is hugely important, because it sets their expectations and forms the backbone of your continuity-process, as discussed in the first link above): http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7642288 (see the 6 bullet-points).

My suggestion is for you to set up an autoresponder series first. Conduct surveys and ask questions to your list. Also, encourage them to ask you questions or send you mails. Doing these things builds relationship with your list, and they are more likely to remember who you are when you send them a promotional mail.

Also, have a good ratio between useful and free stuff and promotional messages. Alternate between a freebie, soft sell and hard sell, or maybe even 2 freebies. Since you'll be setting up an autoresponder, everything will be automated.

Also, you can buy a good guide from the WSO section to get a better view of email marketing.

Yeah in email 1 or 2 depending on the list I'll either ask them to send me a reply telling me the one thing that's really holding them back or they are struggling with and then study the responses or I'll ask them to answer me a few quick questions on a survey and then study the data and put it to use. Helps you know what sort of content they want and expect from you.

This 10-20% open rate thing that gets banded about as being 'good' in the IM niche, is this for peoples freebie lists or buyers lists? If I had open rates so low on my buyers lists I'd be horrified. Freebie list maybe because a lot of people will grab your freebie just for the sake of it being free so it's understandable they don't really care about your emails.

    Hi Congrats on your sale!
Here's my tip on email marketing. Try to write 2 emails per week to build a relationship with your list. If you wrote 2 per week for a year then each person that joins your list will go through the whole sequence for a year and you've only done the work once! Ok it would've taken a year to do but once it's there it's there for good!

People love stories so try to incorporate stories into your marketing and try to relate them to your niche. This way people will start to relate to you and enjoy reading your emails.

Here are some ways to get stories:

    Child Hood
    School Days
    Job or 1st ever job
    Major Disaster
    1st Sale
    How You Started New Business
    Any Successes
    Any Failures
    Mentors
    Family
    Dating
    Friends
    Sport, Hobbies or Interests

    All the best
