Any suggestions to start a forum with an existing blog?

I have been looking around for some tips to start a forum from scratch. My music blog established in 2010 and I decided to add a forum to make use of the user driven content.

My knowledge is more advanced. The basics are there already, but I would like to have some tips how to increase the activity on the forum. Any blog article or book suggestions?

I already paid the how to manage an online community ebook of amazon, but this is a little bit outdated. Maybe you have read some recent articles which are good to have with me?

Forums are difficult to start up but once you have a following they can be fun and easy to maintain.

When you travel past a restaurant parking lot on your way to dinner - to you stop at the restaurant with the full lot or the one with just 1 car, assuming you don't know either restaurant?

Of course you stop at the one with the cars! Same is true for the forums. People go where other people are.

To start, you may have to pay others to post consistently in the forum (who may also be moderators as the forum grows). You should post yourself several times daily and market the forum heavily in your niche. Once a forum starts to flounder without users it can take even more energy to get it moving again.
