Creators Of Your Own Products

I have always promoted affiliate offers, some have been successful whilst the majority have not.

I have never really thought about creating my own product until an email i received today from an Internet Marketer stating that your own product creation is where the real money is.As long as its well written and proven to work!

What i would like to know is what was your first product creation and was it a success or failure?

And what did you or have your learned from your first encounter

my first product was an adsense and amazon video course which still sells today

i created it in march 2011

it has sold around 200 copies but the mistake i made back then was i didn't make a wso out of it and didn't upload it to any affiliate network

yes product creation is where the real money is at, you come to realize that after being online for a while and working it out for yourself after opting in to so many lists and seeing how other people do things

you kind of spot the trend

just creating the product is not it though, you need a plan for the product and also you need to know how market it to the masses and pick up affiliates

it's all a learning curve though which anyone can learn with a bit of hard work and motivation

Not 100% sure if it was my first product or not but I created a DVD that I sold on Amazon and it did really well.

You just won the most useful post of the year award.

To the OP: Yeah, product creation is where the money's at. I developed mine in a health niche a while ago. I made MANY mistakes. I was still making $200/day with my product. If I could go back in time I would have built a list, hired a professional copywriter and video creator and recruited tons of affiliates. With my knowledge I could easily make ten times more now than I did back then.

Unfortunately my site was hit by the Google updates and I have to rebuild now. Live and learn!

Make sure the product is something people want. Have a plan in place to promote and sell it.

My first product was PLR-Health-Wizard which continues to sell today. I think if I were to do it again I would NOT do a membership as the FIRST product. I've learned quite a bit over the years about creation, marketing and streamlining

I would compare this to having twins as your first children (which is what happened to me). After them, the next two were a piece of cake. However, it was trial by fire.

I have since created other products and done affiliate marketing in and out of the IM niche. I much prefer doing the marketing instead of selling information ABOUT marketing - but I also prefer coaching because I enjoy teaching. Although there is training with PLR-Health-Wizard, it is more of a support product to help those marketing in the health and wellness niche.

Product creation is easy once you know how to do market research and know what people are looking for.

Creating the content is also not that hard. You don't need superb English to be able to write a guide. What is important is that you deliver what you promised in your sales letter in a simple to understand English.

My first product was about creating ebook using PLR materials and how to upload them onto Clickbank.com. Since it was my first try, I consider it as a success although I did not make much sales.

My second product was a hit. I sold 564 copies with only 2 refunds. It was ironically a very simple idea which I managed to produce within a couple of days.

Now I have 7 WSOs under my belt and in the process of finishing my 8th WSO.
Since becoming a product creator, I have learned that to make a WSO successful, you NEED affiliates to help you to promote your product. You cannot rely on walk in traffic from the WSO section.

This is a fact that I have learned and if you want to join this game, you too need to have a few good affiliates to promote your product. If you cant attract good affiliates, I am sure that your product will not be selling much even if it's a good product.

Yup my first product sold well and to this day is. I've since tripled the price though for the same material and buyers are just as happy as the originals. My advice if you are wanting to create a product is make sure the need/market is there first.

My first product was created on 2007 and managed to sold over 1000 copies over the web by affiliates and some good JV partners.

And now I am offering niche PLR products in a membership to marketers.

IMO, creating your own products either offered it in a membership or sell it under your own will be a good solution and a successful one.

The only thing to take attention is the rights you offer for your product if you're selling it to marketers.

While I am not as of yet officially a product creator, in the endless search for quality products, I can stand true it has definitely become a major motivation to do so. Certainly, there are some great products out there.

In my recent quest to find quality eBooks in several niches, I'm not sure I can promote half the crap people are packaging as a 'book?' these days.

Thus, I too am a firm believer your success has greater chances in the long term, provided you create quality, value, and employ honorable marketing practices.

    I say gopher it.

    All the Best,

My first product was a sound editor for the DX-100 synthesizer, that ran on an Atari ST. This was about in 1987. It sold 1 copy.

My first product was a deals website script. I sold around 20 copys at $99 each. So thats just ender $2k, for something like 12 weeks of work. Id call that one a flop. My second product was actually a bunch of scripts for webmasters. I ended up selling the copyright to the scripts to another website. I made some decent money from that, but nothing fantastic. Both of these were years ago. I then spent several years as a freelance programmer.
My latest product is my Facebook apps. First Social: Viral Facebook fanpage apps is about a year old, it is doing very well. So the point Im trying to make is that creating your own product probably wont be instant success. But if you learn from your experiences you can do well. One thing I strongly suggest is do some research before you even start the product creation process. Know who your buyers are, and make sure there is a genuine need for your product.

You definitely want to take the step up from just promoting other peoples products to creating your own, it sets you apart from the rest and gives you something unique to build your brand from. You're going to struggle to create a brand without your own products.

It's really not very difficult to write your own ebook or made a video for example. For an ebook you just need one problem, one solution and a copy of Word to type it up. It doesn't have to be super complex or fancy.

As others have said the secret to success with your own products relies on finding affiliates to promote them. To get affiliates having just a good product is not enough. You need to be networking with them and be able to offer them something back in return too most of the time. So that means promoting their product and making decent amount of sales, to do that you need a big and responsive list which you may not have to begin with. You'll need to start small and build it up bit by bit until it's at the level where you can do some serious sales, then the affiliates will show some interest.

The fastest way I know of to create a quality product is to take something you know and teach it to someone else on camera. We found if we were just trying to talk to the camera, we would lose our thought process quickly and the videos weren’t turning out. But when there is another person with you, you both feed off each other’s energy and it is amazingly easier to create the training video.

Then pull out the audio = you have your MP3’s.

Then get the MP3’s transcribed. Use the transcriptions as a base to write your ebook. Just add in more details where you feel that you left some stuff out. A 4 hour video will probably be a legitimate 200 page ebook.

If you work hard you can get the whole thing done in a week even if it’s your first time. Then you have an entire “home study course”. (And not just an ebook that would probably take a lot longer than a week to write if you were to start with just that).

You would be surprised how much content you can get from doing a video.

I agree with Nathan in his method of teaching a person how to do something you are already familiar with using video.

Having someone to engage with while doing a video allows you to become more comfortable with the topic, cover things you had not thought of, and help you to keep on task with the topic.

In my experience, for about 60 minutes worth of video you can get about 12 to 15 pages of content depending on how fast or slow the person is speaking.

This method kills two birds with one stone, you get text and video from one session.

I write and self-publish ebooks. My first ebook ('Art Head Start') was a labor of love project and was huge in size, for an ebook. And being a "Can't get to art school? Study at home with my ebook" sort of product, it has a large number of illustrations - many of which I made myself.

It's done OK for a first try - but could have done much better. My mistakes:

    1. I tried to "Fill a need and find it". That is I created my product before finding the best niche that needed it and then fine-tuning it to them. I did also sell it through a leading art portal's store, so that helped.

    2. The market niche most likely to buy turns out to be not very motivated.

    3. When I decided to also publish it as a POD (Print-on-Demand) book, I found that my 72PPI images all needed to be modified to 300PPI resolution - what a pain!

I guess it's true that "experience is the best teacher"...
