I bought Erica Stones Power of Squidazon recently and have been looking into the world of Squidoo.

My First Lens has already netted me £20 plus through Amazon and it has only been live for just over a week.

Check it out and feel free to let me know what you think

  • A nice lens I'm surprised that URL wasn't already taken, good luck with your future lens building

    • Very nice.

You could optimize your tags. Try to find tags that are more commonly used. For example only 2 others share your first tag - so you are not getting a lot of link juice there. Also you can use the widget in the sidebar to highlight another product from Amazon (utilize the space above the fold).

      Great start!

  • Nice lens. Congratulation Paul.

  • Hi Paul, great lens. Like that you've done something slightly different to Erica's layout.

I've just finished my 1st lens and was about to publish when I saw Squidoo's warning about spun content and block on transferring lenses.

Yours adds value and makes comparison easy so I'm sure they'll love it.

I'm going to change mine slightly. For the direct comparison tables did you create your own HTML code and if so do you mind sharing the tags please

    regards

    tony

    • Hi Tony,

I think Erica's Guide gives a great foundation to build on but I am not keen on the one-size fits all approach. Standing out from the crowd is what it's all about and that will be difficult if lots of people are following the same template. I'm glad you noticed and really appreciate the positive comments, thanks for taking the time to respond.

The table was created using the Squid Utils Table Generator. Nothing fancy other than centered text.

Save an Excel spreadsheet as CSV and import directly in to the generator. My comparison table is two text modules joined together (the second has no title and therefore slots straight underneath the top one.

Adding the images is pretty simple. create a standard table and replace the cell values with the HTML copied directly from Amazon Associates (selecting Image only)

A trick I have been using to good effect is to write out your content in a Wordpress post (visual view). Feel free to format the text in any way (add links, add images hosted from your own site, colours , italics, add lists etc) then select the HTML view and copy the entire thing in to your Squidoo Text module. All formatting will be retained.

  • Great lens, great URL. Nice work. Squidoo is something I am keen to experiment more with.

    • Thanks for the comment...

I think there is great potential on Squidoo but requires a great deal of time and effort. I am currently carrying out an experiment to see if there is more value in creating a Squidoo Lens or an independent niche site...

I think the problem with unique content these days is not knowing the most profitable area to publish it too...
  • Great work in a short period of time! Erica will be super proud of you!

    • I hope so, she has produced a great product which holds real value
  • Quick Update on my first Lens.
    • 2 weeks in and Lens Rank is up to 348 in Sports & Recreation, 12,881 overall
    • 3 More affiliate sales via Amazon

Really pleased with the positive response from people!
  • That's a nice helpful lens.

I tend to use squidoo more as a buffer for crap links, but I can see how what you've picked would monetise well.

Well done man! Good effort, and congratulations on taking the initiative and getting a result!
  • Well done Paul. Squidoo is a great marketplace that is slightly saturated now so you should be proud of yourself.
  • Try to decrease the lens rank below 2000, so you can get an extra $60 from Squidoo.

    • Excellent lens Paul, very informative. I'd like to get into Affiliate Marketing eventually, Squidoo may just be my first attempt.

      Well done!
  • Wow, thats nice! First week and you got that money, that isn't something we see everyday.

Hope you can make more money and have more success with your squidoo lense.
  • A very good lens. Just the kind of lens Squidoo loves.
  • Paul, Excellent job, very nice lens.
    I do have some suggestions-
    A. Start making more just like that one... you will do well.
    B. Use a little trick I learned. Make your primary tag and the first one after it identical. For some reason that I do not claim to understand this actually helps. Every one of my lens jumped up in ranking immediately when I made this minor change in tags.

    • Thank you for sharing your success!

Your lens looks great.... and I wish you the best of luck with your campaign.

And thanks for the tip on using wordpress as an html editor. It's a familiar comfortable environment for many of us to work in.
  • Squidoo gets a lot of mixed opinions - I personally think it is awesome for testing out niches and also it gets ranked pretty fast. You have to spend some real time when you are building your lens and keep on updating but if you are prepared to do that you see results. The only downside is that if they choose to lock your lens or delete you are back to square one.

    Awesome work though!

    • Well done! Great job!

I'm surprised you revealed your niche though!
  • Squidoo? I had not idea people still did things with Squidoo in 2013. Interesting.

  • Hi Guys,

Thanks for the positive comments. Still focussing on the GPS Running Watch Niche, I have added another Lens.

Garmin Forerunner 610 GPS Watch Review

In true IM fashion, I will be spending more time on the things that are working for me (good old fashioned 80/20 rule) and spending more time on Squidoo.
  • Congratulations on making money with it for starters. Just don't build the majority of your income stream from this, because what happens when someone pulls the plug on your account and you lose the lot? I prefer to control my own web properties, rather than this business model tbh.
    • [1] reply
    • Yeah, this is one my concerns with Squidoo but if you stay within their guidlines then it can be turned in to a positive. I like the fact that they are activley sifting out the lenses that do not make the grade. I see it as a great way to increase the value of the ones which are approved
      • [1] reply
  • I don't post to Squidoo anymore but your lens is a nice example on how a comparison-type article should be. Congratulations on your quick success and keep working on it, but at the same time, focus on building your own web properties so that when something happens to your lenses, you will still have something to count on.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Those are SICK results mate!

If you can get those kinds of results right off the bat, you must be a natural.

This lens is a great example for everybody that is thinking about setting up some residual income on Squidoo.
  • Congrates man.
Such a nice lens deserves success. Someone landing on lens like this will feel like getting all info he/she possibly need to make a decision.

Great job man. Well done. Keep it up up and up.

  • Thanks for sharing the link to your Lens, it looks great. I'd like to find more info
on the "Power of Squidazon" course that you mentioned.

  • I've visited your newest lens, and I must say it has a great, very clean design. You should add a couple of modules, though, that let the visitors interact on your lens, e.g. polls, quizes, maybe a dual debate module. If someone interacts on your site, it has a positive effect on your lensrank. And getting into Tier 1 has a positive effect on your earnings You can also add a Lens list, so the visitors might check your other lenses as well. Oh, and add more tags

    • [ 1 ] Thanks

  • Nice lens, yes squidoo and amazon is a good combo.
  • Hey Paul, great Lens :-) Looks really nice, but for me I prefer to use my own websites to have more control over everything like content, links etc.

Anyway, if it works for you keep on track! Just don't make the mistake to keep all eggs in one basket...

    Good luck,

    Phil
  • Can see you put some work into the lens
    and it's looking good.

    Congrats Paul!
  • I like your lens, it's laid out very well, but I wonder where the cash flow is coming from since I don't see your squidoo pages listed in the top 20 on google/yahoo/bing for any keywords yet.

I'm assuming your profit right now is coming from a few squidoo members or marketers on here who clicked your Amazon affiliate link on your lens and bought something as a thank you gesture (who were most likely going to buy something on Amazon anyway so they figured they'd help you out). It's nice of them to do that but for analytic purposes it can make you think your niche is better than what it is. So.. I wonder how many actual GPS running watches did you sell on Amazon? or were the items bought on Amazon not related to your squidoo lens? Thanks.
    • [1] reply
    • I have set up individual tracking IDs for each of my Lenses and can confirm that the 5 GPS watches (3 Garmin, 1 Nike, 1 Soleus) I have sold to date all came from direct clicks from my "Best GPS Runing Watches" Lens. You are probably right about the sales coming from Squidoo members / fellow marketers as the page is yet to really feature with SERPs but I would be extremely overwhelmed / humbled to think that people were making a Thank You gesture on a £150+ product. Either way, I know where you are coming from in terms of initial boom Vs Longevity and it is something I will be keeping a close on eye on. I am just super happy with the results I have had so far and everyone had been very supportive
  • You have designed the lens in a very nice manner. 20 pounds in only 1 week is a very huge achievement. Your lens will be an inspiration for me.

  • Great job and congrats on earning from your lens.

Never had much luck with squidoo. Tried it a few years ago but congrats!

Will definatly check out the WSO. Make sure you post your review over there too
  • Now up to #163 in Sports & Recreation and #6,951 overall. Trying not to get too excited about this but I am very happy at the progress
  • Wicked lens, mate! It is thorough and brings value to the reader; you couldn't ask for better than that! Glad to see success on Squidoo...I have a few lenses on there that aren't really doing anything but were fun to make, lol! I'd say you are 'one to watch' on the Squidoo scene! Best of luck!
    • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • Thanks for the great comment...As for "One to Watch" time will tell on that one but I will do my best
  • I went to comment on your lens and when logging into Squidoo, quickly agreed to what I thought was a new TOS, entered my email, clicked agree, etc.....

Now I'm dealing with a DUPLICATE Squidoo account...Already had one, but gave a different email address...to 'agree' to TOS and now have two accounts. lol

Great lens, and really appreciate you sharing.

Lesson learned about quick clicking... ;-)
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Wow...congrats...
    keep it up.
    Best wishes
  • My Lens is 3 weeks old now and has risen to #4,860 in overall LensRank (so happy about this). Still seeing a trickle of revenue from Amazon, largely through uplift sales. Currently working on a new lens within a new niche. More than happy to share it with you on this thread due to all of the positive feedback

    • Hi Paul. Congratulations on your early success with Squidoo lenses.

You say that you learned the techniques you used to do this from the WSO 'The Power of Squidazon' by Erica Stone?

I was just thinking about buying her more recently released and slightly cheaper WSO about Squidoo lenses, 'Squid Pro Quo'. I was wondering if you've also read that one by any chance and so could venture an opinion as to which is more useful?

If not, then based on the one eBook of hers that you have read, would you recommend her as a credible source of useful and effective information that one who is willing to learn and put in the work can definitely use to make money on Squidoo?

There are very many information products claiming to teach people how to make money on Squidoo for sale on an off the Warrior Forum, and I'm not sure which one or ones to buy, so am interested in the opinions of people who have bought them or bought other products by their authors.

      Thanks.

  • Thanks for the in depth response, you have made some extremely valid points, all of which I was already aware of...

When I talk about value, I always mean value to the customer and not in a resale sense. I already have many niche sites out in the wild so this is just something else to try...
    • [1] reply
    • No probs, I tried to get it all into one post rather than clogging up your thread.

I didn't pick you up on 'value', it was merely in the context of my post. I can't be too critical of Squidoo anyway, I do frequent there sometimes and own some lenses that act as buffers to my money sites. But as a money making method per se, I would encourage you not to spend too much time on it.
