You can put anything you want in the "from" field of an email. It's been like that all the way from the beginning.

It's illegal in most first-world countries if done for business purposes.

        Developing nations, not so much.

Watch out for those. If you get e-mails that are suspicious, don't open them, just delete them. They're trying to get you to do something or put some dodgy malware on your computer.

The ones that nearly always get me are the ones that look like paypal. You have to remember to read the actual e-mail address to see that they're not... Just a bit of a heads up...

      hahaha..

Anyway i opened because i wanted to go down and click the unsub or report button somewhere.

Only when i opened then google shows that it is suspicious.

      Thanks for the heads up.

If you want to get more spam emails, then open them.

Opening them just lets them know your email address is active and they should be sending more spam to you. Even clicking on an unsubscribe link is not advised in these types of circumstances. Do you really think a spammer is going to honor your request? No, by unsubscribing you are probably just letting them know they should be spamming you more since you are obviously getting the messages.

Just delete them and mark the sender as spam in your email box so you don't get any future messages from that sender.

We've all opened them before. Heck, I still get tricked by the odd Fedex email from time to time... even though I'm not even expecting anything from Fedex! lol.

Yeah, so don't feel silly about it. But just make sure anything that does look like spam you just get rid of right away without opening.

I get those emails all the time. It's just a spammer exploiting the spam email software trying to get your attention with your name in the 'Sender' field. Just delete it or mark it spam and you will be fine.

hey dont worry. It is very easy for some body to Forge your email address and make it look like mail coming from you.

It is called email spoofing and is very common in spammers. That is why ISPs introduced something called SPF, DK, and DKIM (google them), these anti spam protocols ensure that your email is not used by some other person who is not autorized to use it as FROM email address

Bottom line, you were not hacked, they just changed their FROM email as you

      Hello,

If somebody impersonates your name, could this damage yours or your business image???

It would be probably a good idea to find out how and where these emails come from:

Is it a flaw in your website/blog?
      Did your mailbox get compromised?
      Does somebody spoofing your email?

If it happened once, you probably can ignore it. On the other hand, if it goes continuously, you probably shouldn't be ignoring it.

      good luck

I don't know what is going on in the email world. I lost a
Yahoo email account I've had for many years because
of hackers. Suddenly I can't log in and the retrieval
information for a new password doesn't work either.

I don't know if there is any work around for this, but
I'm thinking I've lost that account.

Hi Ray, sry that u lost ur account.
      That nv happened to me.

It may be complicated hacking stuff or it can be personal errors.
Example of personal error is like when i go out in public, whether its the government facilities, community centers, hospitals, lan shop [internet shop], or library, i wouldnt use their computers to access anything that needs my password.

Once i had my elementary school fren over, and he checked his mail on my com, i had nothing special installed, no complicated software either. And not the password remembering system where firefox lets u save ur credentials.
But after he left, when i wanted to log into my account, i accidentally double click the empty field and it gave a drop down of his ID, and when i click his ID, his password automatically was in the field.

And just out of curiousity, i enter, and i went into his email.
From that day, if its not my com, i NEVER enter my credentials.
Not even on school computers. !
Call me paranoid, but i dont understand tech stuff so im just gonna be safe than sorry.

It might be a forwarded email.

    But anyway, better be safe!
I suggest you change your password and use at least numbers and capital letters.
