Help with building a long term, authority website.

Hi,

I've recently began an acne based site using Wordpress (my 1st site) but was wondering if there is a specific ratio of informational vs. review articles that is ideal.

As a newbie I feel slightly uncomfortable trying to write reviews, especially when it comes to products I have never used. I am happy enough when it comes to writing informational articles, but do I need a specific set of skills when it comes to writing product reviews.

Long term I want to create an authority site with plenty of information, but do I also need to write a lot of reviews? I would like to learn how to write effective product reviews, as it's extremely unlikely I'll have used every product in my niche.

One other thing, is the acne niche too competitive, or is that not so much of an issue when creating authority sites.

Thanks for any help, James

James...It is my thought that if I went to an acne site with tons of reviews on all the products...I would see it as standing for nothing...

I would attach this niche with the best product I could find...and stick with one product...if you recommend everything no one will believe a word you say...

Research...Research...and then do more research...then promote one product or one line of products...

promoting an entire line would be an way around my suggestion...

If you want to review a bunch of products...they should each have their own website...

This is good advice. I too would take a one product or at most a top 3 products approach of products that you've used and that works.

The remainder of your site could provide informational articles encouraging people to sign up to your e-newsletter and/or linking to your review(s).

I take this approach in a niche and it works very well. I've tried 6 products in the niche and published 3 reviews of my favorite. The site converts very well and ranks very well for 2 of the 3 reviews.
