How I can know any image is copy righted?

Hy friends ,
Most of website designer collect pictures from different sources. I mean they don't care about copy right material because from where they copy that image that source also collect that image from other sources.
Means No-One knows that who has copy right owner of that image.
So my question is that, how any person knows that any specific image has copy right and who is the owner of that image.
Please elaborate briefly.

In photoshop cs3 and later versions there is an option 'read watermark' that allows you to do that.

    Virtually, you can't.
To play safe, purchase your royalty free images.
    My favorites:
    1. istockphoto
    2. shutterstock

Always opt for the lowest res images => cheaper.

Assume that someone owns the copyright to that image unless you know for certain whether it's an image in the public domain.

It doesn't matter if it's not clear who owns the copyright to a particular image. If you use that image without the copyright holder's permission and they find out, you'll still suffer the consequences. Rather only use images that you have permission to use, or stock images.

The person who owns the rights knows.

If you have a legitimate license to use the picture, the license will give you the details you need.

If you are copying a picture and you don't know if it copyright or not and you don't know who the copyright holder is, then you are putting yourself at risk.

Many people steal and many people do not get caught. That doesn't mean they are not in violation.

Ignorance is not a defence so if you said "I just copied it from someone else who copied it" you are still fully liable.

If you DON'T KNOW what the rights are ASSUME you have NONE.

You should only source images from places that offer a legitimate license. You can find free and paid sources for images.

ALL images are copyrighted unless and until the copyright holder or time releases them. A good rule of thumb is to assume copyright until you have clear, definitive proof otherwise. Word of mouth, rumor, or use by others is not definitive proof.

The reality is that 99% of the time nobody will see your image and go "that's my image!". However, if you want to play it safe, uy cheap istockphoto images for sites you don't want to receive a DMCA for.
