Mentorship: Is this forum enough to learn?

I am just wondering if this whole puzzle that Internet marketing is can be solved alone lurking in these forums in piranha-fashion or it is better seeking advice from an expert or two and learn this way.

I would like to hear your opinions and experience in this regard.

Cheers.

Yes, I can say with certainty the answers you need are all in this forum in one area or another (added stuff in war room).

It depends on your personal focus and discipline. Are you able to focus yourself? What exactly are you trying to achieve?

The answers are here, but what are your questions?

Figure those out and use the search function and google too.

    Hey Baguadude,

Yes, you can learn what you need to know right here in the forum.

    However...

A lot of people need help with choosing what's best for them, and how to apply it to their specific situation. That's why having someone (a coach, a mentor, an advisor, etc.) to guide you along the way can help. It's one of the biggest reasons why I do what I do.

    All the best,
    Michael

I think the INFORMATION contained here is enough, but can YOU apply that information and resources without someone kicking your ass to do it, and hold you accountable?..

    Only you know that...

The key to success at this game is to choose an area and
specialize in it until you comprehend the possibilities of
      continuing in that area.

Many people are doing internet marketing using a business
model I would not touch - because with every choice you
      make sacrifices.

If you do freelance work you have to work on your skills,
      tolerate and negotiate with clients.

If you do affiliate marketing you can get screwed out of
      your commissions.

If you create your own products you'll have to deal with
      customer service and perhaps affiliates.

If you do network marketing you'll have to do things
like talking to people on the phone - which is a real
      fear area for some.

The list goes on... every model has it's ups and downs.

Choose an area and learn it better than most - then you
can assess it's strengths and weaknesses and modify
      your course as necessary.

You can definitely learn a lot of new stuff from forums like these but that's not enough!

    You have to take ACTION.

Read and implement till you start seeing good results. Then just rinse and repeat.

    Hi B.

My suggestion is to look at some heavily viewed threads that have very good "Start up plans" and start to work on one of them. Starting IM can be done for nothing.

Then, as you run into issues and challenges, learn to search the WF via Google for "keyword site:www.warriorforum.com" and you'll find plenty of solutions.

    Success,
    Sam

I hired Paul Evans from Nicheology for one month and his first email response alone was worth its weight in gold. I agree, while there is alot of information and knowledge on this board, I wouldn't depend on it alone.

This forum is a good starting point. It'll get you familiar with the basic concepts, and lead you down some good paths.

The downside is that there's tons of people giving advice that aren't successful themselves. And a ton of discussion about nickel & dime strategies.

Here's two example from my personal experience...

    1) I first started this stuff in late 2004. Had no clue. After reading this forum, I learned about Adwords, squeeze pages, basic affiliate marketing, clickbank, etc. Tried Google Cash, and lost a bunch of money (cause I still really had no clue). It wasn't until buying Perry Marshall's book that I figured out how to run a proper Adwords campaign & started making decent profits every day.

    2) After 2 years, I was making decent money (not great, but decent) with nickel & dime stuff on the side, and I was working as Ecommerce Director for a fairly big company. Decided to get into physical products. But the only reason that business got huge was because of the seo & conversion skills I picked up in Stompernet. Nothing in this forum will ever come close to what I've learned from the Stomper guys.

So, to sum up, this forum is a pretty good resource. But you'll outgrow it (in terms of being your main learning portal).

Well, all the information you need for a college degree is in books
so who needs professors? The job of a mentor is to guide you on
what to spend your time on learning. If you should choose for
yourself you can end up wasting a lot of time.

Absolutely, you can learn everything you'll ever need in this forum. The only thing that you need to do is to weed out the B.S. from the methods that really work. Make sure you follow advice from people that are actually making money online.

I can tell you from personal experience that I found a lot of great information in this forum, and I made my first $400 online because of this forum and the Thirty Day Challenge, but it took me too long to realize that I wasn't really getting enough from the forums.

I started the thread above, and I started getting one-on-one coaching from Michael Oksa. So far, we've mostly worked on my sales page, and it's gone from this to this. That second page is fresh enough that it hasn't hit it's first 100 visitors yet, so there's no conversions, but I can tell you at a glance that I expect a lot more than my 2-sales-in-six-months that I got out of that first page.

The benefit of one-on-one coaching, for me at least, is accountability. Reading the forums gave me lots of ideas, but I had a tendency to whitter away hours chasing too many of them. With Michael's help, it's been super-easy to build, maintain, and execute to-do lists that trim out all of the distractions and stick to the critical elements.

I can honestly say that without that one-on-one element, I'd probably have gone back to cleaning houses to keep my baby fed.

While the information here at the forum is good, I would say find one or two marketers whose style you admire and learn from them. Sometimes too much information can be just as bad as not enough information, and in a big place like this it's easy to get information overload syndrome.

Yes, the information you need to get started with internet marketing is available in WF free. I have gotten some of the best IM information and advice from thread on WF. But you have to take action, and use the information. A mentor/coach can help you do that.

There's a lot of good advice in this thread alone. You can learn a lot from the Warriors, maybe all you need to know, but how long will it take? Not all the advice is good, some people are trying to help but they don't have the best answers. You have to be able to sort out the good from the not-as-good.

You also have to realize there is no one-size-fits-all blueprint. Different people have different strengths and weaknesses. You have be adaptive.

Mentors can be good, but mentors often won't tell you everything you need either. Not that they are intentionally holding things back, but because they are so far removed from their beginnings that they have forgotten much of the early confusion they had to sort out for themselves.

Mentors can be anyone, not just marketers, and even the circumstances we run up against can be a mentoring situation if it causes us to think, learn, and make positive changes, so don't just expect to get good advice from one or two big names. Look to learn from everyone, online and offline. There is not one person in the world you can't learn something valuable from if you are looking to learn.

Be a note taker, don't let those "aha moments" get lost in the fog of time. It's surprising how many times we know something but have forgotten it, only to be reminded that we knew it all along when we learn it again from another source.

Having a mentor to guide you through your learning is good. With all the information presented in forums like WF, you could get overwhelmed at some point. I think the first thing you need to do is to identify your skills and which business you plan to venture in. You can always go back to the forum and search for answers but you need to know first and foremost, what your goals are.

When I first started online marketing Terry Dean was unofficially my
mentor through his Internet Marketing Protege Program course which
I bought and was (is) a reseller for. I studied that course like I was
preparing for final exams and put into practice everything as SOON
    as I learned them.

Some practices I dropped but if I had maintained the same discipline
I would've been much farther ahead. But for sure that course sifted
out the important factors for me to concentrate on.

"When the student is ready, the teacher will appear"

I came to this forum through a somewhat circuitous route. I've learned a lot since I've been active here. Is this the end all and be all? Of course not. But there's a ton of great stuff to learn here, and especially a ton of great people to interact with.

Personally, I take kind of a "spiritual' approach to business. This may not work for everyone, but it's worked for me. I found this forum, when I needed it. I'm sure I'll find something else when I need that too.

When that happens, I'm sure I'll continue to give back to the people here who have helped me so much.

Hope that throws some insight into things.

As someone fairly new to this forum..all I can say is that, so far I have "emailed myself" 4 tutorials that I found very interesting/informative on this forum and probably read 30 to 40 threads (all the way through)!
Hopefully I will be here long enough, to be able to share at the same level that others are sharing for me!

Hey Brian, (and fellow Canadian!) my sentiments exactly, I learn so much from the forum and ask people for advice and they've over-delivered. I hope to help others at the same level one day as well.

Baguadude: Some people need councel, some need coaching. Coaching is great for being steered in the right direction. Mentors are ideal when you are doing everything right and are ready to move to the next level.

Start with confidence and belief in yourself. Also you need to ABSOLUTELY know WHY you are doing this......what pushes you, what inspires you, otherwise, its easy to give up.

    Cheers!
