Looking to buy my first solo ad

Solo ads are completely new to me, so this is my first time exploring this sort of thing. After a bit of research, I have come across Ad swaps, sell solo and buy solo mailings - Safe-Swaps. Apparently it's a great site. I created a free account and had a look around. It doesn't seem too complicated.

However, I'm a little confused as to what I am exactly advertising. I recently launched a new affiliate website of mine that promotes different products I am affiliated with. In the sidebar is also my new opt-in form. So my question to everyone: Which do I promote... my actual website or the fact that I am giving away a free eBook as part of the opt-in process?

I'm only looking to spend about $30 on <100 clicks, so I want this first attempt to be worthwhile.

    It's best to develop a squeeze page with your opt-in form and a sales pitch about your free product.

    That way the call to action (completion of the form) is obvious.

    I wouldn't send traffic to your website as few people will opt-in due to the fact it's filled with other content.

    You can then go onto offer a few more freebies or just jump into selling the affiliate products (which you've test driven yourself) by setting up your pitch / review in your autoresponder follow-up sequence linking into another site which has a clear "buy" button call to action after the relevant sales copy.

      The only way to make this kind of mailing work is to offer a very attractive freebie on a squeeze page. Most of the "subscribers" you will be mailing to are freebie seekers.

      In order to make a profit from these people you have to have a well tested, killer sales funnel and follow up series.

      Not for beginners.

    Send them to a dedicated squeeze page. Sell the freebie as hard as you would if it were a $2300 coaching program.

    I know this may come off as crazy (especially on this forum), but I'm not really a fan of squeeze pages. Perhaps I'm in the minority, but they come off as scam-y to me. I realize they can help convert opt-ins, so I am not totally against the idea.

    To approach things my own way, would setting up an opt-in page on my website help? I'd rather do that than create a squeeze page separate from the site. Consistency in design is a big deal with me.

      AND

      - An opt-in form on your website.

      That way you'll be able to grow your list from the squeeze and your website.

      The squeeze is the best thing to do solo ads with.

        Yes, that definitely helps! I'm going to start with creating more onsite content and then go from there. I've already had a few people opt-in simply by visiting my site, so at least my method is beginning to work. I'm just looking to try something out of the norm.

      Personal likes/dislikes have no place in marketing. You do what has been proven to work.

        With all due respect, I've seen plenty of success in promoting products my own way. I am currently affiliated with several brands. Affiliate marketing is nothing to me. Solo ads are simply something I have yet to try, that's all.

        I appreciate your help, but there's no need to sound hostile about it. We all have our own methods.

            Wow. Is anyone else seeing this guy? And here I thought posting on an Internet marketing forum would allow me to interact with people of maturity. Everyone else in this thread has taken the time to share valuable information, of which I greatly appreciate -- yet you're acting as if you are insecure and having to defend yourself.

    I think you should create a specific page on your site for your squeeze page and send the traffic there advertising the free product that they get for opting in. When you buy a solo ad its important to try to get as many people to opt in as possible so you can build your list faster. Remember the money is in the list!
