a cliche answer is: find your passion and choose the one that actually popular nowadays. because promoting your hobby or field of study will keep you from getting bored, and popular niche will definitely sells in the right market.
but it is not as simple as that, most of time our passion is outdated and can't be used to build a niche in its own.
so, simple minded people will only consider what is popular today. for example, health loss, medical and health supplement, etc.

It all depends on you. What is good to one person might not be to you. Find something you enjoy doing and like others said, master it. There are so many great potential out there. Besides not wanting your own website, what else do you like to do?

I'm from the interest and passion school of thought, at least in the beginning. The trick is finding a niche in your area of interest. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes not.

But you would also do well to explore other areas of potential interest so you don't ever run out of interests that you can tap and develop a niche in.

So I guess the short answer is focus on your passion while being open to the new ...

BTW, why not create a website?

When you consider what 'niche' you want to go for, think about those niches where you'll find desperate buyers.

If your niches contains desperate buyers, you can't go wrong.

Perhaps from young male teens with raging hormones, but I doubt they'd be buying customers.

You are better off working on something you know a lot about.
For example can you knock out 5 articles a week of 500 words or more on your subject.
If you can then you have found your niche.
Don't pick things you know little about just to make a quick buck because you will find it becomes a frustrating experience.

Back to the question that Bob asked - why NOT create a website? And, if no website then what are your plans for product creation and marketing? There is Kindle or Amazon for physical products without a website. Ebay for physical products. Fiverr for services.

What else can you do without hosting your own website? [Just can't come up with them right now - I KNOW there are a host of others - there has to be, right? ]

BTW, I wouldn't go with a free wordpress or blogger site because you have no control. You may spend hours of your time (=money) building traffic and products only to have it taken down.

Do NOT use MailChimp for autoresponder because their TOS specifically says no affiliate marketing and you can have your list totally disappear in minutes.

If you plan to market services or products online, it is a business. If you are after a hobby, then you'll reap the rewards of a hobby. Businesses have some cost - and online those costs are minimal.

    URL - 10.99 tops
hosting - 7.00/mos for a baby hosting account with HostGator
    Autoresponder - 19/mos generally

Where else can you start a business for $26.00/mos?

I hate to say but you have a long journey ahead of you.

Pretty much any niche is profitable, it all has to do with how well you market though. there is no magical niche that will instantly send you traffic just becasue you are in it.

Having a website is pretty much a requirement to make money online, even with affiliate offers or cpa offers you'll need your own site to get the best results.

I can see that you're confused because you're actually asking three questions at the same time:

    1) How do I find a good niche?

For me, a good niche is one where you give people a solution to their problem.

So for example "weight loss" is a better niche than "weight gain prevention" because the people on the second group don't have a problem yet.

Hobbies can also be very profitable because people tend to be very passionate about them but "problem solving" niches tend to be the best ones.

Here's a simple thing that you can do to find some profitable niches:

Go to the famous Google Keyword Tool and type something like "how to get rid of", "how to lose", "how to fix", "how to make", "how to" and see what comes up.

Another thing that you can do is to market to a niche that you're passionate about or already have knowledge in. For example if you lost weight in the past you do have the knowledge and the skills to help people that want to achieve the same thing. And because you already walked the walk, it's much easier for you to market to that niche.

    2) How do I get traffic?

This is where a lot of people fail and get confused. I'll save you the initial frustration and give a method that has worked for many many years and will work for many more.

    Focus on Forum Marketing.

You already know how to post in forums so this shouldn't be that hard for you

After you've chosen your niche go to google and type in "niche + forum" and register in 2 or 3 forums. Try to go for the big ones to target the biggest audience possible. You can check how many users are registered at the forum (usually displayed at the bottom of the site) and also run the site through alexa.com to have an idea of which ones have the most traffic.

Now you just have to participate in the forums daily, answering questions, creating threads, etc. Focus on quality, not quantity of posts.

The way that you're going to make money here is by promoting a product in your forum signature. DO NOT promote inside the posts as some forums are not cool with that. The post is where you give, the signature is where you take.

    Signature example:

Fat Tomatoes - The exact program I use to grow huge tomatoes on my own backyard.

And you'd link "Fat Tomatoes" to your affiliate offer.

If you don't know already, you can find a lot of products to promote on Clickbank.

    3) How do I do this without owning a site?

I just told you. Do forum marketing and direct link to your affiliate offer.

As time progresses and you make a few bucks invest in your own website and maybe create a simple review page to presell your visitors before sending them to the offer. Better yet, put up a squeeze page and start building an email list.

As far as Adsense (which my experience has been in) weight loss is amazing. Great CPC, amazing CTR, and countless other blogs/resources to get links from.

edit- insurance/finance/law are obviously a lot better but those are insanely hard to do well in. Most top companies dominate the SERPS even with the smallest keywords. I found health to have good profitable long tail keywords.

would be hard to do that without a website.
and it's highly recommended to go after something you already know or at leas something that you will have interest in learning. don't make the mistake of going after the most profitable niches and loose interest in a month or so.

I would actually be with the believe that it's not the niche that's good, its about YOU.
Now, if you work hard & work smart you will make it in whatever niche it is.
You will make your own opportunity rather than looking for one.
Certainly, some niches have greater scope to scale than others.
This doesnt mean that the other niches are bad

    Cheers
