    Advertisements.

Primarily those with text that says "download" is what I would expect.

Also I could see someone on a torrenting website buying things like Netflix and GameFly to save them time, since it's already so inexpensive.

Brent is right on the money here; it's all about content locking.

(There are a million ways to do it; mostly with password encrypted archives; the password is then revealed via steganography AKA "fill out this form, and the password is located after you register located on the third line of text" or whatever)

Alternatively, you can create reports laden with affiliate links.

It really depends on the uploader. Some do it strictly for the money and use content lockers and/or the download of shady movie codecs (if you're looking for movies/TV shows.) Others are less aggressive and simply advertise their site inside the RAR/archived file. Finally, the rest just do it for the love of sharing and the belief of a free cyber world.

I use torrent sites on a regular basis. In fact I have just had some software developed that automates my postings. I use them to build my list and sell products but there is a right way and a wrong way to do this.

You cannot just upload files that are full of affiliate links and expect the files to stay up there as this is considered spam and they will be taken down in a flash. Also any content locked or password protected files will not last long and get you banned

Also only share files that you have the rights to share and do not dream of downloading any copyrighted materials, it's not the way to go

    I've never downloaded a torrent.
But if you content lock in demand material.
    It's very profitable.

I think most torrents with advertisements in them are considered fake, there are movies people upload that are encrypted with cpa offers and stuff like that.

Many make money by putting the torrents on their own 'neutral' download sites. The sites make TONS of money from adult dating, etc. $200 per sign up even.
