"best" laptop for IM, budget ~$500?

Hi warriors,

Some money came in, and I need to spend it wisely. Please help me decide.

Note:

- no heavy graphic editing is needed at the moment (future card upgrade?)
- will be doing affiliate marketing/product creation

Requirements: (main priorities are in bold)

- i3/i5 (will be doing heavy multi-tasking)
- reliable (limited money for repair/replacement)
- 15-inch screen max (will be carrying it everywhere)
- easily upgradeable + future proof (at least for a while)
- good build quality (will be using it almost 24/7)
- preferably windows 7 (windows 8 confuses me :confused
- solid wifi connection (at least to a home/cafe network)
- real five hour battery life (or close to it)
- preferably illuminated keyboard equipped

Which laptop/brand would you buy with these requirements with a budget of ~$500?
-or-
What laptop/brand are you using with these requirements that is ~$500 and how do you like it?

Thank You in advance!

peace

Just my opinion, you can get an assembled desktop within that budget, buy parts off your local marts or NewsEgg, that'd sustain your requirements, and also perform better. Plus it'll have much better configuration that a laptop of same budget's will.

Anyways take a look at these:

        Hi Guys and Gals,

If you go to the Dell Outlet web site ...

Dell Outlet Home Clearance | Dell

... you can find 'Scratch and dent' computers which function perfectly - and for a lot less that the regular price.

Oftentimes they are brand new computers that have been returned to Dell with the box not even opened. And they are often still fully warranted by Dell.

        Warmest regards,

        Paul

I don't know if you'll be able to find an i5 laptop at 500 USD. Perhaps you should check auctions on Ebay and maybe you'll get lucky.

    Hi iPresenceBizSolutions,

I am trying to purchase via the cheaper way possible. I'm a little wary of purchasing online, for fear of possible damage/theft in/after shipment (bad neighborhood).

local purchase preferred, but will go online if significantly cheaper...

I am using MacBook Air. Its Intel Core 2 duo , 2gb ram,13inch display(with 1440*900 resolution screen looks fantastic) . Battery life is also very good. In work mode laptop could live about 4-5 hours without charging. In the past I was using windows but now I never never consider to change from ios to windows. So I think with $500 budget you could get the macbook.

Best to get a Windows laptop - keen in mind with Mac it uses a solid state disk which means you can only write to it so many times before it packs up. Not good if you plan on doing video marketing which makes heavy use of writing to the disk.

Where do you live? Are there such laptops for such a budget online or offline? Maybe a second hand but in where I live you can hardly find an i5 laptop for 2 times $500.

I highly recommend using an external hard disc for all your videos as it really GOBBLES UP disc space.

I like (and use) a Toshiba Satellite Laptop.. From memory, I got mine with all of those requirements one year ago, for less than $500 (including 8GB of RAM.) The only difference is that mine is an i3.

I recently saw the i5 model advertised though, for around the same price (might have had less RAM), at the same store - Joyce Mayne. I'm in Australia, so I'm not sure of the prices elsewhere.

Only downside is that Windows 8 is now part of the package, I think (mine's still Windows 7. )

      EDIT:

Hmmn.. Just had a quick look at their online catalogue and, of course, they are advertising a higher price online: Toshiba Satellite C850/05D Laptop ($796.)

Another local store here has them advertised $200 cheaper though, AND with Windows 7: Toshiba Satellite Pro C850 Notebook at $599.00 in Business Laptops

Sorry, I know that doesn't help you in California, but it does go to show the wide variation in prices for [virtually] the same product!

The subject line contains "for IM"
If you are planning to use a laptop for internet marketing, think a little ahead about what you are going to do after at least one year.

    Here is why-

First of all it depends on what you are going to use laptop for. Secondly, laptop configurations upgrade very rapidly to keep up with software development. So, I think you should not plan for cheaper one. Be flexible with your budget and buy a better one even if you need to spend a little more.

Any Internet Marketing business is going to rely heavily on your computer(s). I would NEVER look for the most inexpensive route here...instead, look for the BEST option! It might take you a little more time to save up, but keep working hard on the computer you're currently using and upgrade when you can afford to.

And, if you do find that MacBook for $500 snatch up as many as possible, ha!

I personally use a PC, I find them to be much more powerful and speedy! But if you plan on travelling alot with your IM business, go for a laptop. I find ASUS to make very good quality laptops. Go for windows 8.
