Amazon.com Vs. Amazon.co.uk

Hi;
Which one sales better?
Let say, both have same products, about the same price, but, the problem, which ONE has the higher demand?

From my understanding, Amazon.co.uk just be bough only from people around UK.
While Amazon.com, from US.

If consider the number of population, US (315,464,000 people) has higher number of UK (63,181,775 people) .

Can I say, amazon.com make higher sales from .co.uk ?

    Yes, you are right. The numbers speak for themselves.

    But who have more buying power? No point having big number but no buying power.

    Just my $00.02

    Being from the UK I can say I use both. There are certain products and keywords we say differently to our US cousin's so they very easy to rank for. Plus there is less marketers targeting .co.uk.

      I wouldn't really bother with Amazon.co.uk when the search numbers are so much smaller. I've read something about a cap on commissions for Amazon UK too - is it £7 or something (I could be mistaken).

      If you're talking about buying power, looking at the economy over here there doesn't seem to be much buying power left after the recession. Also from what I've read, the sales figures in the UK, although increasing year by year, are still nowhere near those of big high street stores such as John Lewis.

    As a UK user, I buy a lot from Amazon UK, as it's convenient to have my account there, but if I were marketing a product, I would seek the biggest market, which is the USA.

    From what I can see, if you put an e-book on kindle (say), then sales can occur in multiple currencies. I don't know whether that means a kindle e-book is available over all Amazon sites when you submit it, but if true it would mean that all Amazon markets are covered when self publishing.

    You don't have to decide which one to use. Sign up as an affiliate for different local Amazon stores and promote all. I use Wordpress and there are many plugins that can help serve the right links to the right people.

    Example: English people will see a link to amazon.co.uk while americans will see a link to amazon.com

    This way you get the best from both worlds and target the largest audience :-)

    It depends what one wants.
    There are things available in either site not available in the other.
    I am un the UK, but if there is a book on the US site not available here then I will use Amazon.com to get it.

      Personally I would say I am having the most success on Amazon.com, but I do believe there is a Wordpress plugin called Amazon Affiliate Link Localizer that will change the visitor's link accordingly to their country (You must have an Amazon Associate's account on other country's sites).

      I'm currently testing it, but it seems to work. If I enter a link from the Co.uk site, it will change it to a affiliate link in the US.

    You can say that, and it's true. But depending on why you're asking, there are two other things you might want to know, here ...

    (i) It doesn't matter all that much anyway, because you can use IP-recognition software to send visitors automatically to the right link for them (i.e. for you to get paid, if you're an affiliate), US/UK/Ca etc., so you don't need to "choose" anyway.

    (ii) Amazon.co.uk has a £7 ceiling on individual commission payments, regardless of the price of the item bought.

    Depends on what's being sold and
    where the target audience is located.

    I like letting technology where possible
    do the hard word, so the WordPress
    plugin which rotats depending on where
    the vistor is from gets the thumbs up.

      Hey guys, which IP-based plugin are you using? I've tried one (free) and it didn't work properly. Thanks.

    Just because there are more number doesn't mean you'l any more or less. It all depends on the demand of what every product or products you are selling.

    I came across this same problem a while back - I take it from the UK otherwise you wouldn't have even thought about it?

    Some products in the UK version will have different serial codes than the US version - so for example;

    You might have a TV from UK and one from US - both exactly the same TV's yet they have different serial numbers;

    So if you're doing SEO you would be hitting two completely different keywords.

    I would say if you're living in the UK the best thing is the payment. You set your account up and then at the end of every month you get paid into your bank account.

    However,

    if you use Amazon US you'l have to wait for a check I think.
