What day of the week is best for email opens?

Hey Guys

I am doing a bit of research on the subject of which day of the week is most effective for open rates (and indeed, which day is the worst) and I thought it would be a great subject for us to discuss here.

I am sure that someone will want to point our that it differs according to market and perhaps other factors and I know we are talking generally. However, I would be really interested in your own experience on this.

Will

I voted Friday as, personally, this is the day I use to properly read various emails sent to me- and I normally feel good at the the start of the weekend!

Check out this useful study done by Get Response...some very good observations and tips

    Hi Will,

I think if you're talking "generally" then Monday through Thursday would garner the best response. My reason for this thinking? . . . Friday being the end of a working week for most means relaxation, entertainment and going out. Likewise a Saturday.

The weekend for most people is spent in a variety of ways . . . shopping, visiting, sports, time with your partner and family, etc, etc. I also know many families that have shared use of a home computer so the children inevitably hog it for most of the Friday to Sunday evening weekend period.

Monday to Thursday evenings on the other hand are when a lot of people simply come home from work, eat, and spend a few hours online. The children go to bed early because of schooling the next day, and the adults have some time to themselves.

Some of the above is speaking from my own experience, but I've also previously test ran email marketing campaigns and the higher open rate has always been weekday evenings.

Of course if you're targeting retired folk or single reclusives then ignore everything I've said.

The best day of the week for e-mail opens depends
upon too many elements that are related to YOUR
      list.

      There's no one-day-fits-all answer.

Instead, do some testing to find the right answer for
      YOUR list.

Take a look at your website metrics to get an initial
guess at the most active time for your audience.

      Dedicated to mutual success,

Where's the option for "I don't know. I just like to vote in polls!"

    That's what I'd pick!

    YW Bruce.

I would point out that as smartphones become the device of choice for email access, this research will change completely. When technology travels...everything changes.
