I am sorry but no... I can pay a copywriter... Anyone can pay a copywriter, there are many more skills required then that to be successful online. You can be the BEST writer in the world but if you can't get people to your site then your nothing. Not saying that it isn't an important skill to have, it is but in reality it is more complicated then being able to write something good.

You can pay someone to do just about anything. The point here is achieving results not achieving outsourcing results.

The point here was clearly stated... That copywriting is the most important factor when it comes to online. I said that it wasn't, there is a lot more to online then just this... It doesn't matter if it is in house or out sourced, the underlining point of the article was copywriting was the thing which mattered. In reality it is a piece of the wheel.

  • I agree with Lee. There's so much more to IM than just copywriting. Finding a good niche is an art, as well as a science. Finding the right keywords takes experience. Building a relationship with your clients is just as important. And once your business grows, you have to learn how to outsource and manage people. Copywriting is an important skill but it shouldn't be your only skill. In this business, you really have to know as much as you can about your business and continue innovating in order to stay on top.

None of this really matters if you can write good copy. Create an offer that converts and people will want to promote it. Create great ad copy and people will come to your offer which will give you the metrics to attract JV partners (if your sales copy is good).

And effective relationship building is all about selling...selling YOURSELF. In written form, it's email copy.

You can outsource the sales of your product but you can never outsource the sales of your vision or long term goals. Those sales come from a business owner. For example, a person who has a great idea for an SEO company can hire salespeople to sell the services. But if that person needs $500,000 in seed money he is the only one who can sell the bank or angels on the deal.

Sales is the only thing that matters because it's the only thing that, without it, you'll definitely go out of business.

I agree. For the majority it's easier to hire it out, even though good copywriters are expensive. There is no one skill. Saying copywriting is the one thing you need for success is like saying becoming a concert pianist is the one thing you need.

That will certainly work but like playing the piano well, becoming a good copywriter takes years. I see people show up on the copywriting forum asking for the best course so they can learn to write copy. I swear, some of them have the idea it's like learning to drive. Too bad it's not that simple...

Copywriting is important but I'd say that selling in general in the most important business skill. Without it, you cannot start a business - EVER!

Copywriting is obviously a form of selling but I know copywriters who can't get clients because they can't close a deal. I also know "sales trainers" who can't get clients either. That's another story.

But yeah, if you can't sell, you're dead when it comes to business regardless of what you do. And no, you can't just hire salespeople and get buy. The entrepreneur MUST know how to sell in order to survive.
