There would perhaps be little point in trying it, Rob? It would be very little more effort to use IP recognition software to direct visitors to the appropriate Amazon website for them to buy from, according to their locations (i.e. the appopriate one for you to get paid, as an affiliate, rather than losing your affiliate commission instead!).

(Amazon.co.uk also has a £7 commission ceiling, so it would be pretty difficult to earn a living from it.)

Promoting products through the Amazon UK affiliate program makes up a big part of my online income.

I was put off at the £7 commission cap per item but it didn't stop me averaging over £3k per month.

I had one site which promoted a product around £40 and all I was making was around £2 per sale, but this site alone brought in £1k per month.

The cap is only per item, if the you send a customer to Amazon UK and they buy 4 items caped at £7 each, you earn £28, so it's very possible to make decent commission even with the cap.

You can make good money from Amazon UK as long as you have high volume targeted traffic and a high converting website. I don't build the typical kind of Amazon sites that you see flouting around in Google. I build authority sites with custom design and very detailed product reviews of over 1,000 words with unique images.

At one point I was buying physical products, using them and reviewing them in great detail. Most of my Amazon sites would receive 'Facebook Likes' because they genuinely helped people with their purchasing decisions.

The only problem I now have with the Amazon affiliate model is that you'll be relying mostly on Google traffic, which is VERY risky. Google has been pushing out a lot of big updates over the last couple of years which will continue, making your income just one Google update away from being wipe out.

I don't recommend this model if you're looking for a solid, long term and dependable income.

However, you can make good money from it, and it makes a good side income or as an additional online income stream.

You'll find plenty of people having success with the UK scheme; but is it something that you want to do and feel you could do, or are you just testing the water?

Amazon can be a tough slog initially; there's lots to learn (product research, keyword research, SEO, linking to social properties, web design/Wordpress/other platforms, etc.), so you have to be sure about it and committed.
