A true Warrior has passed away.......

It is with tears pouring down my face and the deepest of sadness that I share the news of the passing of a dear friend, Cathy Shelver.

Cathy has been battling cancer for many years and passed away today.

The world has lost a true gem.

Please keep Cathy, her husband, her two young children and her entire family in your thoughts and prayers.

    Oh no ... I'm terribly, terribly sorry to hear it.

    I hadn't heard from her for about three/four weeks, I think, and wondered, and feared the worst, after some of her recent comments. (Cathy and I have been exchanging fairly detailed, personal messages here since 2010). Her bravery and dignity, in the face of her unspeakable illness, were truly remarkable.

    I find it quite impossible to know what to say, on such occasions. Except that I'm terribly, terribly sorry.

  • So sorry to hear that. I have witnessed so many cancer horror stories this past year.

    Just 3 weeks ago some guy I knew died unexpectedly. I say 'unexpectedly' because the week before that (4 weeks ago) he had no knowledge of it. Alive one week, dead the next.

    May Cathy Shelver rest in peace.

    • I haven't talked to Cathy for two or three months and I didn't realize she had become so ill. She will be missed. Cathy was one of the most positive people I've met online, even in the face of what she's been going through. You're right - she was a true Warrior.

    Each time a Warrior passes away it gets a little harder, because so many Warriors supported my family when we lost our little Olivia 4 years ago. Consequently many of these Warriors have become like a 2nd family to us and their passing brings true grief into our hearts.

    I remember her: quite a while ago I had the pleasure to reply to some of her posts/questions here and she came across as a very nice person. Sincere condolences to the family!

      I'm deeply saddened to hear this, I spoke to her many times via PM and I admired her enormously.

  • About one year ago, she had said that she was doing better. I had thought that the prognosis was still good.

    So, it comes as a surprise to hear of her passing today.

    She will be missed, and please do pass condolences to her family.

    • Wow, she was young... Wasn't familiar with her, but I'm so sorry to hear of her passing especially with two young children.

      her as being a thoughtful and sincere member - and very
      optimistic too.

    I'd say at least a year or so ago, Cathy wrote to ask me a question about a product I was offering. Her illness came up in the back and forth conversation and I remember thinking, "what a shame such a nice kind person has to fight such a tough battle".

    May God rest her soul.

    Cathy Shelver was a beautiful person, inside and out.

    She was a customer of mine - the rare kind that appreciates what they get from you and reaches out to tell you so.

    I'm terribly sorry for her husband and children. Cathy and I had talked about her illness once upon a time as my mom's a breast cancer survivor. Makes it even harder to hear.

    I thought she'd beaten it and come out the other side ok.

  • Prayers go out to you and Cathy's family. The Bible says that no matter how big our need is, our Source is bigger than that. God is our source and Ephesians 3:20 tells us that God "is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us" (NKJV).

    I lost my own father to cancer 5 years ago, so I can understand how difficult it is.

  • I did not know her either, but I am saddened by this loss of someone young who seems special and I hope and feel for her family.

    One of my favorite people of all time lost his father when he was ten. In those ten years, the father had an incredible strong and positive and lasting impact upon my friend.
    I suspect the same will be true here.
  • Very saddened by this news, despite not knowing Cathy personally. I have been very obsessed and preoccupied with the concept of death and dying for the past six months or so, as I'm becoming more aware of my mortality and this kind of news is just horribly depressing to me.

    I hope her family is able to pull through this and find strength in one another. I wish I knew what to say to make things better, but my greatest fear is that there is nothing any of us can ever say in a time like this.

  • I don't know Cathy but can relate her may as human being. I don't have words to write here besides, my prayers for her family and specially two young kids who have lost their mother. I am also a mother of 3 kids and can't imagine them without me. May GOD give them strength to bear this unbearable loss. Though, nobody can fill this cavity but still I pray and wish for all the family members to come over this grief. May she rest in peace.

    but much too many are taken away much too soon by this terrible disease.

    Thanks for reminding me that life is indeed short
