How much time should you spend per day marketing?

Hey y'all. Just wanted to hear what everyone thinks. How much time should you spend on marketing online in a day?

I've heard varying answers from all day to only one or two hours a day.
Personally I have felt that it depends on where the energy is. If I'm feeling it then I should work more, if not then I should not work at all and get as far away from the computer as possible.

Ultimately it is my drive that determines how much effort and time I should put in. If I believe that my actions will take me where I want to go then I will work for hours and hours.

At the same time if I am not feeling the energy then I may be doing more harm then good and get burned out fast.

Also I believe what is more important is LEVERAGE. If you have the right vehicle you can get 100 times more done. I have felt like I was moving a mound of dirt with a spoon, but it is so much easier done with a bulldozer.

It usually depends on my mood. For whatever reason, I find myself to be very motivated late at night — so I get most of my best work done between midnight and 4 AM.

As long as I get one productive thing done per day, then I am happy.

It depends, you could spend all day - but how productive you'd be for that amount of time can vary.

I think having a structure of a certain amount of time focuses me, rather than saying "Oh, I'll get XYZ done today, I'd rather say I'm going to have X done by 12, Y completed by 1:30 and Z should take me another hour or two."

Parkinson's principle states that the longer you have to do something, the longer it will take - not necessarily with much more improvement.

    just my thoughts

As long as it takes you to reach your
    goals. Once you've reached your
    monthly income goals I'd recommend
to focus on outsourcing those tasks.

That's kind of like asking "How long is a piece of string?"

There's a practically infinite number of answers, depending on the situation.

If you only have an hour a day to work on your business, you can't very well work on marketing for 6 hours

I think the better way to look at it is what percentage of your time should be spent on marketing.

Personally, I spend 70-80% of my time on marketing because that's what brings in the buyers. Building sites, researching markets, dealing with mundane stuff like email and those kind of things are necessary but should be a small part of your overall strategy.

Depends on you! When I had a 9-5 I pretty much came home and did it till midnight or sometimes later. I was putting in 50-60hrs (30hrs weekly/20hrs+ weekends) a week doing everything manually just online and 40hrs a week with my 9-5.

Now I pretty much work Monday - Friday about 4-7 hours a day

    Good Luck

I spend about 4 hours marketing a day but really depends
on how much work I have to do for that day. I use Gtasks
to set tasks for myself and eggtimer to keep myself motivated

There really is no set answer to this because there are a myriad of variables involved. It depends on the business you're starting, how many resources you have, what time management skills you may have (or not have), and intangible items such as motivation, focus, and problem-solving skills.

I generally recommend people invest 20 hours a week into any new online business they may start, but that's not to say you can't get a lot done in half that time. A lot of it has to do with how you plan and how you execute that plan.

    There are lots of variables.

It depends on your marketing practice, achievement, wants and desire.

It's just like asking how much money you would like to make, we all have different ambition, goals and capability. Something that can do in 10min might take others 30min, don't hinge to this or you will fall. We are all different.

Actually you don't need more time spending for marketing, If you focus to build buyers traffic. Actually I earn over $1000 just with 120-150 visitors on one of my business website. All I do is focusing to get potential buyers attention instead of garbage of UN-targeted traffic.

I try to spend as much time as possible on marketing, 90% or so of my working hours. Even the marketing time spend, only half is really spend on marketing related tasks, and the other half on marketing research (learning and improving new and better product and marketing channels etc).

When you are brand new to the internet marketing world, it is better if you work a few hours per day to get things going.

I know some people who don't work more then 30 minutes per day and still earn a killing online. Don't forget that these people actually already have marketing strategies working for them on auto-pilot and they worked their behind off to get the boll rolling.

I would say as much as you need to. What's more important is, not so much the time you spend but what it is that you do with the time you spend. For example, if you decide that you are going to spend, say, two hours marketing then make sure that you actually use those two hours for marketing - not checking e-mails, installing WP plugins, researching, going through course material or whatever. All those things are good and are, perhaps, essential parts of your schedule, but if you're going to set aside some time for a particular task then stick to working on that task within that time period and nothing else. When that time's up, take a break and then do the same thing with another essential task.

I could quite easily sit here at my computer (and have done) for twelve hours 'working' on my business and yet accomplish very little. If I had set aside perhaps an hour or two with a specific task in mind then I'd likely have accomplished far more in that short space of time than in the rest of the day just winging it.

Having a plan, goals and maintaining focus and consistency within a given time period will yield the best results. For example, this morning I set aside one hour to work on a specific marketing task and nothing else. I set a countdown timer for 60 minutes and if I need to take a break for whatever reason then I stopped the timer and resumed it when I was ready to return to marketing. Now I shall move on to something else, again with this structured approach. I find that this helps me to remain focused and less distracted and using this approach I'm certainly more productive than before :-)

The majority of your time (80%-90%) should be spent marketing or managing people you outsource your marketing to. This is true for both paid and free advertising. I still see people wasting time making changes to their site and wondering why they are not making money when their daily visitor count is less than 100.

I would say market until you reach your current goals. If you are just starting out then that may mean 8+ hours a day.

If you have momentum going like a successful blog - then you may only need to spend 1-2 hours max a day to market.
