I wanna stream some MP3s on my site, and wanna reach out to as many people as possible,

What percentage of visitors are likely to be able to stream a clip if I use HML5 to do it, and include both MP3 and the media format for firefox? Any guesses? Emerging markets excluded

I guess im not going with flash just so im able to reach the mobile/Ipad market as well..

or should I go with flash and create a mobile version as well?

Any ideas?

Is there a particular reason that you're choosing HTML5, other than because it's new and shiny?

I think that you sort of answered your own question.

There will be many people out there that won't have the ability to interpret HTML5, so therefore that should not be your first choice.

I'd say that Flash also falls into a similar category. I have a phone that won't do flash (yes its a couple of years old) It's still a very good phone, so I can imagine that there are others out there like me.

I'd just go with a javascript player, as that is most likely to be compatible with a larger range of devices, including mobile.

As far as mobile devices are concerned, HTML5 is losing the battle. It does have a pretty bright future,
right now HTM5 is the foundation for Firefox OS, so it's a pretty big deal with Mozilla.
Microsoft says they are HTML5 compatible, but they're way behind Mozilla.

HTML5 does seem to work on Android and iOS. But right now, it's rivals are out performing it,
especially when it comes to speed and delivery.

If it's just a simple mp3 player, I would go with either flash or java script.

You can also go to HTML5 Test to find out more about compatibility issues.

      Hope this helps

thanx guys, as I understand a javascript still needs a plugin like flash to play it tho.

I found this: SoundManager 2: JavaScript Sound For The Web

and maybe thats my best choice as it combines both flash and html5 to make it as playable as possible, I doubt I can miss out on that much of the market if I use it, and seem to be the option for me, unless I missed soemthing

        thanx again :-)

You seem to be headed in the right direction...
I honestly don't see the harm in it, especially with audio files ...
most browsers and devices should be able to play mp3's from HTML5

          good luck
