Multiple Wordpress install on one domain..

Hi there, first post.

In a book I read it claimed that creating a Wordpress website with multiple wordpress installs for each of the websites sections under sub-directories was beneficial.

For example:
  • cellphone.com
  • cellphone.com/ios
  • cellphone.com/android
  • cellphone.com/windows

I claimed it was beneficial because if one part of your site received a penalty from google it would not effect the rest of the site, only the sub-directory that receive the penalty. But authority from one part (or sub-directory) would still pass to the other sub-directories.

Question one: Is this true?

Question two: If you publish an article under the sub-directory cellphone.com/windows how would you be able to show that article on the cellphone.com since in effect it's coming from another WP?

Hope you all understand.

Question one: No, that's false. For sub-domains maybe, and it's debatable, but definitely NOT for directories.

Question two: Off the top of my head I can't think of a way you can do this. You can easily create a link from the hompeage to the article but I can't think of a way to show the article on the homepage if it's created on another Wordpress install in a way that would work.

A better question is why would you want 5 different wordpress installs if you are new to this? Sounds like you are making this WAY too complicated for yourself. I have sites with 2 or 3 WP installs but it's for very specific reasons and I know what I am doing.

      Thanks for the reply Bill.

The book I read said it was extremely important for very large websites; I plan on building a 500+ page website on my niche. So your saying even a sub-domains may not even prevent other parts of the website from a penalty?

Throw that book you were reading in the bin.

No way is it going to stop any penalties, they are all still part of the same website.

One Wordpress install is all that's needed for a setup like that.

I do not see any benefit you can get from multiple blogs under sub-directories in terms of SEO.

These blogs are considered the same site by Google. If one is penalized, all others are affected.

      Thanks guys!

Sounded like bullshit when I read it.

Google treats sub-domains as separate entities and thus if the main domain is penalized the sub-domain will likely not be penalized. But I'm going to be honest with you...don't worry about this stuff and don't worry about what you "plan" to do. Just start building your site with one wordpress install and go from there. There is no reason to plan like you are without any experience behind you to guide you.

And regarding that book...I have NO idea what advantage you would get either with many installs in sub-domains or sub-directories. If anything you have an advantage having everything under one installation. Just build it and don't think so much
