What to do with 700 email addresses?

Over the past several years of selling on ebay I have accumulated roughly 700 email addresses from past customers. I started keeping the addresses 'just because', I guess. This was before I knew anything about mailing lists and such, so I never categorized these addresses or kept up with what product they bought, etc. So now I have this random list of 700 email addresses and am wondering if there is anyway to capitalize on them. I know that I can't just start emailing them with offers, SPAM! So does anyone have any suggestions of what to do with them? Thanks!

    Its a little tough now to market to them and get them yo opt in to an auto responder. thats a great list to market too, they are all buyers.

    This depend of the TOS when you were having them opt-into your list.
    I will look at a complimentary product/service to give them, I will send them surveys on what they need and give them free product for that.

    If they opted into your list when you were selling to them, then you will capitalize on the above, send them to a second list with free report and market to them from that list, teach them for free and sell a backend product to them

    I think you're only hope of getting them warm is to write to them apologising for not contacting them earlier and offer a freebie (in exchange for them opting in again). You'll then weed out the bad addresses.

  • you can start emailing them with offers, just make sure you follow the spam guidelines and include an opt out and your physical address etc.

    any commercial email you send is probably considered spam anyway so read up on this

      I would put them into your autoresponder and send out a thank you with a free gift.

      Try to figure out if you sold a number of things in a particular niche. If you can't then stick with something that will help their computer operate faster, eliminate spyware etc.

      Then I would get them to your website that has a free gift for a number of niches. Once they click on the gift they want they fill in their info into your specific autoresponder that puts them on that niche list.

      If you don't want do that just send the list to me!

    It's a buyers list so it is profitable. Offer them similar products they bought on you and continue the relationship. You can start by telling them that they bought from you before and give them freebies twice a week so that they will start recognizing you again. After several days, continue giving freebies like report and discount coupons then add some offers below the message.

    throw them away and start fresh ... it will save you a lot of money in the future. Just a few spam complaints and you're in hot water. You'd be better off using Twitter.

    I have heard someone else who transferred ebay contacts to aweber, about 10% opted in, you could go that route, then they would all definately be real contacts and you could email them again and again.

    Are these 700 emails niche specific or all over the place? If the later, better do nothing. They won't remember you and you won't have nothing to offer that will please them all.

    I'd create a free report around the type of work you do and set up a one-page website to promote it. In order to get the report your visitors would need to sign-in. This form would be one from one of the big three autoresponder services. Then you simply send an email to your 700 encouraging them to go to this page and "opt-in" to get the information. Now you've got some percentage of the 700 into your mailing list from which you can send ongoing messages. Plus you now have a page and an offer that you can promote on Google or elsewhere to drive new targeted traffic.

    I would definitely throw them away. You said they were a few years old anyway and you have not kept in contact with them so I would throw them away and start over.

    This time make sure you have a specific process to collect your customers emails and send them good relevant information.

      By law, at least in most states, you have every right to contact customers/clients who have purchased from you in the past-- I believe up to 6-12 months after their most recent purchase date. This includes emailing as well as what could be considered telemarketing without it being considered spam or illegal phone soliciting (even if they reside on the "do not call list").

      Now, I'm certainly not an attorney and you should verify all of the laws and regulations to be sure of this, but here's a foolproof way of dealing with your situation without getting into all of that (although you still may want to check canspam just to be safe).

      Send an email to your list, explaining that you are following up with them as clients of your business. Build a VIDEO opt-in page with a great free "thank you gift" for them, obviously keeping it along the lines of the sort of products that they have purchased in the past. Explain the gift in your email and provide a 3 links to it at different places throughout the email message --One perhaps a paragraph into the message, the second about 2/3 the way through, and the last link placed at the end of the email.

      I would send a different message with the same free offer link everyday for a full 7 days, making sure to condense the email list as the prospects get transferred to your new list or decide to unsubscribe from your mailing.

      The only problem here is that you may be in for a bit of work. Another warrior suggested importing your list into your auto-responder, but because of abuse, many services will not allow you to import a raw email list of contacts, you can only transfer prospects from one "working" list to another. There still are, however, a few services that will let you do this, but you just may have to put in some time trying to search them out. Michael Rasmussen's autoresponder service may support this feature, but don't quote me on that. I think NitroListBuilder may have an option as well.

      Anyhow, at the end of this campaign, you should have two lists. The fist of which is a newly condensed version of the original, but devoid of the uninterested, and uninvolved prospects who decided to unsubscribe. And the second, a new list of freshly responsive customers who have been warmed up and are ready to receive new offers. The great news is, both of these lists are full of previous buyers of your products, and both of these lists can absolutely be marketed to with new offers. The only difference is, the second will most certainly be much more responsive and that is going to be the list that you want to market your bigger ticket items to.

      However you look at it, it would be a shame simply throw away a list of 700 pre-sold buyers without at least attemting to monotize it.

    I dont think they are any good, because they didnt subscribe to the list. Emailing them with offers = Spam... Only way I could see it is send them a once off email saying thankyou, offer big discount with paypal discount code and asking them to subscribe, if not I would throw them away.

    Look at it this way, if u where them what would make u subscribe? For me you would have to offer a great discount. Even if u break even on those orders I think its worth it.

    Having a large amount of email may help you in email affiliation marketing networks...You can also search for the people who pays a good amount for a large email databases!!

    People are pretty forgiving with email spam if you're offering something relevant and genuine... so, just make it look like... not spam?

    the free gift idea is the way to go. I did this a few months ago. the trick is to not come off too sell orientated. I posted a few links to instructional blogs, some news, etc. Be more helpful at first.

    As said above, just make sure you provide that opt out, unsubscribe link.
