Why My money Was Turned Down

I wonder why CPV direct refuse my business because I declined to give out my phone number (I have enough telemarketing people calling my home). The credit card was approved and the money deposited into my account, and I called them myself to verify my account information and to make sure there is no fraud involved, but they still won't activate my account unless I gave up my phone number.

So give them your number. If you trust them enough to give them your money why would you hesitate with your phone number?

Most businesses require a phone connected with a credit card.

Get their guarantee they won't sell or rent your number.

If you're concerned about giving out your home phone number, then you can just get a call forwarding type of number so that third parties won't know your real number. There are many companies that offer such a service at reasonable prices. Alternatively, you can invest in a pre-paid cell phone (e.g., a Tracfone) and just give out the cell number to anyone who needs it.

Edit: Jeanne beat me to it.

I'd just give up the phone number. Or go buy one of those $20 prepaid cell phones from Target to use for business purposes. I remember being outraged 10 years ago when Dish Network wanted my social security number. But it boiled down to this: If I wanted Dish, I had to give up the SS #.

That's really the only thing that you can do unless you try to talk to a supervisor or higher up in the company.

I can't see why giving out your phone number would be an issue. You gave them a credit card number. I doubt that they are interested in sending telemarketing calls your way.

It's been a while since I used their service, but Callfire provides virtual numbers for something like $1/month + $0.05/minute for usage.

Just sign up (I'm not sure if there's a minimum) and get a number, use it, then burn it.

Your phone number is just one extra level of protection for them in verifying who you are. They are entitled to ask for any information they want to. They wouldn't be in business very long if they started telemarketing all of their customers.
