What can I do to generate traffic?

I recently joined the forum. I'm relatively new to blogging and online marketing. I thought long and hard about the niche I could serve best. I've been producing fresh, timely and I believe valuable content everyday. However, I seem to be missing something. I get about 60 unique visitors each day. I don't know if that's good, bad or somewhere in between.

It seems to me that there's a ton of hype about traffic generation and the income potential available. I sure could use some help cutting through the noise. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Joe Benevides

Here's the secret no one tells you about traffic generation.

It takes time, and if you're trying new things, every now
and then you'll get lucky and get a huge spike of traffic.

Ever notice how most 'traffic courses' will show how they
got 1,437 visitors in one day... the reason they aren't
selling 30,000 visitors a month is because traffic can be
hit and miss. Sometimes a video on youtube goes viral
    and sometimes they fail miserably.

The only thing you're missing is more time and more
attempts... I'd say keep doing what you're doing and
look for a few more methods to expand your social
media traffic and maybe even paid traffic if you're
    ready for it.

wow that's some great advise. That is true though. I learned from some blogger that said one post getting 10 views a day isn't much but 100 posts getting 10 views a day is a 1000 hits.

But of course unless you're on blogging steroids, there's no way you can create 100 quality posts in short amount of time.

      Everything takes time.

One piece of advise I'll give you is don't get stuck chasing the golden egg. The gold egg comes only after you've raised the chicken or put in work.

Took me over 2 years to stop chasing the fast money and build something that would last.

Learn and focus. Implement and fail. Repeat the process until fail turns to succeed and you'll be on here one day giving advise to some newbie that is just getting started... ;-)

      Best wishes

    Hi Joe,

First thing I would look at is the 60 visits you are getting a day. Are they really targeted? If they are I would carry on doing what you are doing and double your efforts.

Quite simply, there is NO secret to traffic especially with Google's changes of late. Quality, updated content regularly and lots of it.

OR you can pay for the traffic but you need to make sure it is targeted and also that you actually make a return.

    Hi Joe,

I have looked at your site. It is very well done, so congrats. Your site is only 88 days old and having 60 unique visitors per day is pretty nice. So, obviously what you are doing is quite good.

I missed some elements there. I could not find comment section on your blog. You want to have that to engage your readers. Many people return to the sites they comment on because they are seeking answers. By not having comments on you are eliminating this segment of visitors.

Also I did not see much linking between your posts. You want to show both, the search engines and humans continuity. Especially the search engines, you want to let them know what your site is all about so that they can offer it in searchers when people pose queries.

The other suggestion, if you don't mind. Could you not show only excerpts on your home page? I don't think your site is Wordpress but in Wordpress post editor you can add "more tag" to create excerpts. It gives a better experience to your visitors.

You can improve your traffic on commenting on other people blogs. It really works.

Anyway, continue writing valuable content. It seems to work for you thus far.

    Best of luck

    Dita

This is one of the hardest questions to answer. There isn't one right answer or method.

Like most things, the first step is the hardest. It is also where most people give up. But if you work hard enough and smart enough, you can make it happen. After that it will gradually become easier.

You need to understand the basics and try out many methods to slowly get the ball rolling. This means local ads, word of mouth, SEO, PPC, blogging & content marketing, email marketing, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Forums, Blog commenting, JVs etc.

It looks like you're doing fine just like you are. For your site to be generating 60 unique visitors and it's barely 90 days old is awesome. Some of us don't get 10 visitors a day and our sites are much older. The key is as I can tell from your post if that you've been consistent over the days and weeks. When you are consistent and feed the search engines what they want, they will return the favor.

One thing I tend to disagree with is all of this SEO talk about site optimization and keyword research, etc. etc. I understand that some of that stuff is necessary as far as the H1, H2 tags, bold certain keywords, anchor text and the likes, but my main concern is the actual visitor.

I believe that it's best to write for them and not so much the search engines. I can also hear some saying well they aren't going to be able to get to your site if it's not for the search engines. Maybe. But if your content is good enough for a handful and you have social sharing buttons on your site, don't you believe that they will begin to start sharing your stuff virally?

I've seen multiple articles that are keyword stuffed and don't read worth a crap to the end user because they were simply trying to get ranked. Well, mission accomplished for the bots, but mission failed for the real user whom GOOGLE cares so much about right?

So keep doing what you're doing and make sure that you engage with those who come to your site. Encourage some type of call to action at the end of your post for them to leave feedback or comment about something that they liked in your post. You'll be surprised that it actually works.

There are quiet a lot of options but try to understand everything step by step. You can concentrate on social networking sites like facebook, twitter and linkedin. Is is of no use if you just create profiles and start posting on them. You will need to build your social network on everyday basis if you are completely new. You will need to participate here genuinely(in the same way you do with your personal network). You can also search for groups related to your niche and participate there. It will also help in generating traffic for your blog.

    Here's a better question.

Are you going to monetize that traffic once it hits your site, or are you in this for shits n giggles?

There's no point driving traffic, unless you have an offer at the other end.

I completely agree with John. Unless you have a system in place to monetize your traffic it's not going to help you. You should also build your own mailing list with the visitor traffic.

As most people have said, good content, posted regularly is good start. Be patient, many people give up because they don't see traffic early on and feel they are wasting their time.
You can also use pay ads, SEO services and buy backlinks to generate more traffic.
    Good luck!

  • Now I'm relatively new to this, but Facebook marketing!

As I said this is something that I just started on and I like it a lot. Connect with people in your niche, through groups or pages. Comment and like other posts and add a few friends, this will give you slowly, but steady more targeted traffic.

Notice how I bolded targeted? That's because every visitor you will get through using this Facebook method will be super targeted to whatever niche you are in.

A method that has been very useful for me has posting on relevant forums (with a link to your site in the signature). If you consistently provide quality information on relevant forums, you will build your reputation in that community, and people will come to your site.

Social media, blog commenting, guest posting: all great methods as well.

This is the best advice. Join forums that are in your niche, establish a personality there and eventually you will increase traffic.

Also participate in a few select blogs that are also related to your niche each week.

I find this more worth my while, it's far more valuable.

There are several methods you can use when promoting your site. Some are...

    - Forums
    - Blog commenting
    - Guest posting
    - Writing articles
    - SEO
    - Creating newsletters
    - Social Bookmarking
    - Blogging
    - Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest)

The trick is to pick 2 methods you believe you would enjoy doing then stick to only those methods. Once you see results move to to 2 new methods.

After you have tried every method discard the ones that are not producing results - and focus on the ones that are.

Traffic is easy. Conversion is the hard part. You can do lots of free marketing and paid advertising, but if you dont have a good system to compel them to buy - what good is all the traffic? And dont seek to artificially increase your hits to your site. You'll go out of business by the end of the month.
