How Do You Guys Track Exits (Without Popups)?

5 replies
I just want to see where people are leaving my funnel. Without exit popups, how do you guys track where people are exiting?

I was playing around with the idea of using JavaScript to get a tracking link that fires onbeforeunload or onunload.

I'd like to see how you guys are doing it. Thanks!

    Take a look here. A lot of marketers use clicktale.

    I just use conversion rate, which is sales divided by hits.

    You could calculate exits by subtracting sales from hits. The main thing is to track how many people come to your site and you know how many sales you receive so you can calculate these things pretty easy.

    My software gives me these kind of stats automatically. Just have to ask, which product and to and from dates. I also track the hits and conversion rates for each affiliate. I know who is promoting and who is not and how they are converting.

    I hope this has been helpful,

      If there was just a sales page, that would be easy. Once you start adding 1-2 OTOs, it gets a little complicated.

      Squeeze => OTO1 => OTO2

      I'm trying to see where I'm losing people. Was OTO1 not very compelling? Was OTO2 too expensive? Did they have second thoughts while on Paypal?

      It helps to know where the "leaks" are so I can focus my split testing.

    I guess I take for granted the software I created because it tracks hits and conversion rates per product including my squeeze pages. It also tracks what my affiliates do per product.

    So it is possible to track per product, which gives you a much better idea of where you may have a bottle neck that needs your attention.

    I created my own tracking but a tracking software can even track each product individually and supply enough information to give you the answers you want. It may not produce conversion rates and other calculation but the data will be there to make these calculations yourself.

    I created my software to do the calculations for me so I can see at a glance exactly what is happening.

    I hope this is helpful,

      I guess tracking exits are a little different because there are no hits to track. They're just gone.
