Best host of these three - Bluehost, HostGator and Lunarpages?

Assuming that you were on the standard hosting all three, which would you say would deliver fastest page load for your visitors?
#bluehost #host #hostgator #lunarpages

I have Bluehost and Hostgator and I find Hostgator a lot (noticeably) faster.

However I can't guarantee that will always be teh cased.
I guess it depends on who else you have on your shared server

    Never used lunar pages

In order to assist you with your problem, Anton, here's a website from 5 years ago regarding the popularity - not quality - of the three hosts mentioned, which is probably irrelevant and of no use to you, now: Popularity Check: Hostgator vs Bluehost vs Lunarpages

However, I will state that 99%...hmm - maybe 98% of people on Warrior Forum that use Hostgator think that they cannot put a foot wrong. So, a well-placed wager would be on going with Hostgator and hoping that you fall into this huge percentage.

They all over sell their shared hosting servers, so I guess it will come down to the best support, which is Hostgator I think.

I have had GoDaddy, then HostGator. HostGator are amazing, performs well, easy to use, and have absolutely amazing support.
I also had a DiscountASP.NET account - very high quality service - I wanted it as I was writing my own websites. Stopped doing that, and was overkill for Wordpress installations. They were very fast, and very helpful too.

From memory you can pay for a faily short hosting contract, to test it out. I was a bit sceptical of the services because of GoDaddy, but once I got going with HostGator, didn't look back. Been with them for years now.

If fastest loading times are the criterion for deciding which is "best", then three people could easily have three different answers to this question, because it won't depend much on whether you use Bluehost, HostGator or Lunarpages: it'll depend primarily on what other sites happen to be hosted on the same server as yours.

Of those three, I would go with Hostgator.
I am boycotting Bluehost until further notice.

Over the last 10 years I have used all three (and a few others).

I always end up back with BlueHost.

The main thing that keeps me going back is their "Technical Support".

    Just my 2 cents.

Bluehost, HostGator and Lunarpages are all owned by the same company. HostGator does maintain the best support, but they are in the process of migrating their customers to the BlueHost datacenter so you should start expecting BlueHost-speed on HostGator servers in the near future.

I have used Hostgator and powweb for simple shared hosting and have been very impressed with hostgator's uptime and speed, but not so much with powweb's service.

I'm a big fan of BlueHost - especially their live (US based) tech support. All my WordPress sites and those of my web development clients (at least those I've tested) have page load speeds under 3 or 4 seconds. Their uptime has been better than 99.99% for the 4 years or so that I've used them for all my sites and my client's sites. Oh, and I am an affiliate of theirs (because I think they are tops). Have not used HostGator, but I hear a lot of good things about them.

    Hope this helps...

BlueHost and HostGator are the same company = EIG
And EIG is really lousy. They throttle your sites, so it runs slow. The servers are overloaded.
Lunarpages? Meh. Not as bad as it used to be, but still not great.
There are better hosts out there.

This is not my experience with Bluehost.
I find them near to perfect.
I can't bring myself to mention HG and the saga I had with them.

I do not recommend going with LunarPages over the other two choices based from my own personal experience with them a couple of years ago with much downtime and slow loading speeds.

That is absolutely true. However I have had hostgator and bluehost hosting for over 3 years and have consistently seen Bluehost to be considerably (3 or 4 times) slower than Hostgator. This is very noticeable when performing identical tasks on blogs like updating/installing plugins. Sure hostgator slows down sometimes but seems to be updated/upgraded or whatever and the speed comes back pretty quick. Bluehost however is always noticeably slower so I assume they are happy to run their servers with more load.

Bluehost certainly uses CPU throttling but that may actually be good thing. Think of the other 700 users on your sever with no throttling .

That said I have just checked and have had no throttling on my hosting in the last 24 hours and it used to be pretty constantly throttled. If there have been recent change it has not improved the speed.

  • As someone already said, it really depends on who shares your server with you. That being said, here's my experience.

I have two Bluehost accounts, and both of them have issues. I only have about 10 pages of content on the one account, and its page load speed is really bad. The other account has about 40 domains, most of which are just Wordpress installs with nothing on them, but two sites are pretty good size (although one of the two has all of its content served from Amazon S3). That account has caused many G Webmaster tools notices that my sites couldn't be reached. Recently I checked and had a 39 SECOND PAGE LOAD SPEED. Every time I contact Bluehost for service, whether it be for page load or other things, I feel like they always pass the buck to someone else, and my problem never gets resolved. It's been years and several attempts before I finally gave up on having them install my IonCube loaders. When I asked for support the one time, they changed one of my settings and said it was fixed (it wasn't). When I asked for support the next time, they said my one setting (which they had adjusted) was wrong, so they switched it back for me and closed the ticket (still wasn't fixed). For me, since I'm not a computer science major, customer service is everything, and they just don't have it, IMO.

As for Hostgator, I can't complain. All my HG sites load fast. That being said, I've never had to contact them for support, so I don't know what to expect.

If I had to do it over again, I'd go HG. Actually, right now I'm considering going with their reseller program and/or their VPS, along with transferring my BH accounts.
