I Ordered From Imran and got supplied by Harold - Bad Move

I understand pen names. I use them myself. I think it makes sense to have a name in one market that is different to the name you use in other markets. But surely the publicized name on a website should be carried on throughout the transaction and the supply of the service.

Do you agree?

Today I ordered a service from someone who was recommended to me. His name was Imran. But when the return communication came through they came from Harold. The name difference removes any confidence I had on ordering from them.

I have asked for an explanation but have yet to hear back.

KenJ

P.S. Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

You're right. It's not possible to build trust if you don't even know somebodys Name!

    Just a thought, though.
In my offline business I would introduce the new person to a customer with a testimonial ensuring them that they would get good service. It's not that hard.

    I agree completely.

I'm wondering if this is a case of someone running their business with a pen-name without having (for example) a business PayPal account with which they can effectively continue doing that, or at least not contradict it. However they've gone wrong, it certainly sounds like very bad planning, to me. And there are clearly readily available solutions to this problem. :p

It raises something that's been nagging at me. I want to use - and have started in fact using - an Anglo sounding name. In fact I'm British living in the UK but my name decidedly doesn't look British. Well it doesn't look English anyway. There's the photo issue - I consider it an issue. But the real bug for me is Facebook. If I link to Facebook, my alias is exposed!

    Any helpful ideas anybody?

      Cartoons; silhouettes; drawings.

I use these for most of my "pen-name sites". They're made from photos of myself. There are plenty of people on Fiverr who will do cartoons or charcoal-style drawings or sketches or silhouette-style drawings from a photo, for $5 (some of them even do two for $5).

I originally started doing this largely to conceal my age (didn't want my visitors/readers/subscribers to know I was only 18 - and looked about 15/16). I don't care so much about that, now, but I'm still doing it to conceal my identity and still "have a photo there" (which is obviously a good thing to do), and yet still be anonymous and not recognizable.

        Pfft

Most of us did not care how young you were Alexa because you showed more intelligence than most of the adults. And you still do for that matter.

        Jeffery 100% :-)
