Do you think directory submission is still worth doing for the purpose of link building ?

Do you think article marketing aswell as using the resource box for link building is better ?

Do you think both are just as important?

What do you do?

Look forward to the replys warriors

Thanks
Michael

I don't think that directory submissions are worth all of the time and effort. The last site that I submitted to the directories doesn't even receive any traffic from them. This site is a pretty big powerhouse and not one click form the directories.

Just think about it, when was the last time that you visited a directory to find something? Sure, I occasionally visit Yahoo or DMOZ, but that is only when I am in research mode and I want to find every possible site in one subject area. Other than that, it is Google all the way.

Save your time and concentrate on other traffic generating techniques.

    Hi Michael,

I think both should be part of your plans when you setup a new site or take on the task of building traffic seriously. It is true that humans don't use a site like DMOZ, however, Google uses the fact that you're listed their in many of their algorithms. It helps your rankings.

Overall, there is no silver bullet --It's a matter of doing all you can, and then looking at what has worked for you. Then take what has worked and do more of it for your leading site.

    Success,
    Sam

I would spend time doing article marketing before I would spend time doing directory submission. Though for a cheap price you can usually do some affordable bulk directory submissions in which case it doesn't take much of your valuable time.

I'd focus on article marketing. I've heard that google no longer likes directory submissions. Whether that is true or not I don't know. I've done some directory submissions in the past, and really never noticed any difference worth noting that made it worth my time.

If you're talking about the free directories, there's no reason NOT to do it. It takes 1 minute and $50 to outsource the job.

If you're talking about the paid ones, go by the ones that Jerry West recommends (his site is Web Marketing Now - SEO Testing & Conversion featuring Jerry West )

Yeah, but when people are starting out not all of them have $50 that they can spare to outsource that kind of thing.

Both are important. And what is important is to always have multiple strategies.
        - directories have the potential benefit to give you the correct theme, which you may not always receive from each link; if you site is about cars, and you got a link from a cars website directory with a car related anchor text, this is nearly a "perfect link"; also many of these directory links are easy to obtain;
        - articles will not give you this themed flavor usually, but instead you get possible traffic, possible SERP ranking, possible recognition as an expert, etc.

Thanks for the guys replys. The things is I'm more interested in knowing how much link juice we can get from directory submission when we use Achor text
    (title of website etc)
I realise that most people don't visit directories. I heard that a link from DMOZ is like Link juice from God what about about link juice from the smaller directories?

Internet marketing is a tough game isn't it?
