Double opt-in for fitness niche?

From my experience and what I've learned, in MMO niche, single opt-ins is the most popular choice.

Because I want to migrate to the fitness niche, I've been subscribing to a few lists to study them and noticed that most of the one I joined are using double opt-ins.

Would you say that double opt-ins is the way to go in the fitness niche?

The niche doesn't matter. Better quality with Double-opt in; however fewer opt-in's typically.

I always use single opt-in no matter what the niche is (for my sites). Most people are busy and will be rolling through looking to get what it is they want and keep moving. A lot of people don't want to go back to their email, find the email, click the link etc.

I rarely get junk and my list is responsive.

I agree with the above. Single opt-in regardless of niche.

There's no telling if the owners of the lists you've tested simply don't know how to switch to single opt-in.

I can't think of a reason why MMO would be single and everything need be double.

Most marketers nowadays use single optin but utlimately the choice is up to you to make.

I personally will choose single opt in too as you will want to get as many people as possible to become your subscribers. There are some people who will only check their email at a later time and most of them will not bother to confirm their subscription. Just my 2 cents.

If you do go for double then create a 1 minute video introducing yourself and explaining what happens next. The people in the fitness niche may not know anything about autoresponders, and this personal touch will really make you stand out from the rest of the niche.

If you happen to be 100 lb overweight then go hire a hotty at fiverr to record the video on your behalf as appearance can be everything in that niche.

No, I'd say that double opt-ins are default for aWeber, which probably means that people don't think about it.

I have tried both - think you get better subscription rates with single opt-in, but run the risk of being told you're spamming. I guess the answer there is to provide really good value to your subscribers, so they feel happy being a subscriber.

Why would fitness be any different form any other niche do you think? I haven't seen any real difference to be honest.

I lose some subscribers for my detox niche by having a double optin but that is par for the course when you go for double optin. I have been thinking of changing it to single optin.

I have heard that the dangers of single optin comes when your list gets into the thousands and you tend to get more spam complaints.

this would be one of those things you'd want to test out on your own and see which one works best. Which ever one works the best, gets the best quality leads and produces the most profit use.

Your gonna get both answered here and be right where you started, left wondering what you should do. So test both an then you'll have a definite answer

Different, here: my impression is very much that in the MMO "niches", confirmed opt-in is the most popular choice.

The areas in which I regularly and routinely see confirmed opt-in being used are anything to do with making money online, and niches aimed at internet marketers.

There's no such thing as "double opt-in": nobody ever has to opt in twice. They have to opt in once and then confirm their email address, so it's actually called "confirmed opt-in".

No. I wouldn't dream of using opt-in confirmation in a fitness niche. I'd use single opt-in.

In "MMO" and "IM" niches, there are real and genuine reasons to use opt-in confirmation, in my opinion. I'm not in any niches to do with those areas at all, myself, but if I were I'd unquestionably use confirmed opt-in to build those lists. For anything else, I'd use single opt-in (and I just wish I'd learned that more quickly, when I started).

This isn't something I'd "test", myself. That makes no sense to me at all. I already know that I'll build a smaller list - as everyone does - by requiring opt-in confirmation. And I already know that whether people unsubscribe or send spam reports, in future, has nothing to do with whether they confirmed their email address at the time they originally opted in (they'll neither know nor care about that, at the time they complain, if they're going to complain!): it has to do with what you send them and how often. You don't need to "test" anything, to understand that.
