Art studio web site: Facebook vs Pinterest vs Custom photo album?

Hi there!

I need to build a website for an art studio which basically contains their art works with descriptions plus contact info. It should support a collection of images organized by categories. Users will be able to browse images and get some additional info about the studio, so it's not a primary sales tool. If they decide to sell something online they will setup a page in etsy.com

So I am thinking of three possible options.
1) facebook (use photo albums to organize art works)
2) pinterest page (can be further integrated with etsy.com store)
3) custom made web site using one of the existing php photo albums scripts.

what do you think would be better?

Thank you

It really depends on the budget and what the client wants. Are they getting a new website to leverage sales? If promoting a website is on the agenda it makes since to build functionality into the site that allows patrons to purchase directly from them. Thus, eliminating the middleman. It's always best to "put the eggs" in your basket. I say this with experience. I once put too much emphasis on eBay sales years ago, and with their constant changes my business was affected. You can say I learned the hard way.

Now in terms of showcasing art I would definitely say Pinterest is a very good vehicle, but Facebook is just as important. You are talking about two different user groups. You want a presence in both areas. You can use a tool like IFTTT to simply the process and post to images to both locations. You'll have to search around for the right recipe or create one on your own, but I would say go for BOTH.

It's not going to be the main distribution channel. The idea is when someone buys an art work made by the studio (offline) he/she can check it online and find more info, see artists' bio and other art works available.

I am thinking to register a domain like my-studio.com and redirect it to FB or Pinterest page. So it will be more like a business card type website with a list of art works.

Note: I don’t want to promote it much and generate any significant traffic for now because this studio sells its work mostly offline. So this is more a business card style website.

I am leaning towards pinterest because it better visualizes albums with art works and the website looks much more fun. On the other had Facebook is more popular, everyone is on FB now…

I would create their own site and then use the others for traffic. They can repost their images and links to Pinterest, facebook, twitter, etc.

Send all the links to their own gallery site where they can provide more info.

That way if any of the other sites change or a new popular site come around they can just change traffic strategies and not have to figure out where they want to 'live'.

If you don't want to actively maintain a site, you can make the gallery site static and make active posts to Pinterest and facebook.

Or you can maintain and add content to the gallery site and re-post it to Pinterest and facebook.

Definitely create a Pinterest website, and then link it to Facebook / Tumblr, along with a Wordpress image portfolio website of some kind.

    Three in one!

Ok.. one more option is Wordpress site with photocrati plugin

Anyway, the question is.. would it look professional if I made only Pinterest or Facebook page as a company website for an art/design studio? I want to buy a domain and redirect it to FB or Pinterest page…

I want to keep it simple, so all three is too much for me.
