Best way to build a list without a website or product?

Highly competitive niche = people making money.

I'm not sure why you'd want to start building a list
and not making any money, just because other
people are doing it?

You could get a free blog and use Mailchimps free
autoresponder series, but in the long.. or even
short term it doesn't make any sense, considering
that your list will get their promo links sent through
your emails anyway and your free blog could be
taken down at anytime.

If you're going to do the work, why not make a product
and sell it?

When I was in high school I remember thinking, SO MANY
other people already had weightloss products, so selling
weight loss was a bad idea and there was no way there
was enough room for another weight loss product in the
market... but how many weight loss products have you
seen make millions per year in the last 15 years?

Competition is a good thing.

how are you going to get anyone to subscribe to anything if you don't even have a site to put your auto responder form on?

Not easy.

Instead of a website you can use a Facebook fan page.

Add a signature link after your name in emails.

You absolutely don't need a product in order to build a list. You said that you can produce a lot of quality content which should be more than enough to be successful with email marketing.

Of course, everybody is giving away a free ebook or something to get people to sign up to their list, and they think that is the only way... However, instead of "selling" your subscribers a free ebook in exchange for the email address, ask them where they would want a ton of awesome content delivered to on a regular basis.

That way, people are really signing up for your emails, not for a free gift, and will be much more likely to open your emails.

Beware that you shouldn't only give away free stuff though, otherwise people will start to expect that from you, and will start to complain as soon as you try to sell them something. Get them in the habit of clicking through to some affiliate products you recommend to them.

You see... No problem at all. And you'll even make money in the process (which you can spend on traffic)

My first thought is why are you considering entering a highly competitive niche?

One thing I learned several years ago is to just use your autoresponder email address. The idea is to utilize high traffic forums or blog and after sharing valuable content or info, just ask if they are looking for more information from this "author" or whatever you would like to put to just send and email to:

Ex: mylistname@autorespondercompany.com

When they do contact you via your autoresponder list name, they will automatically be subscribed to your list without you having to have a website. It's a guaranteed way to have 100% optin rate. Of course this is with single opt in being set up initially.

Keep in mind that this strategy can be used additionally in articles, blogs, and any other location you choose to share content. But the downside to this strategy is if you don't have a blog/website to send them to once you have them on your list, it will be a hard sell if they don't know anything about you.

Grab a suitable PLR product and rewrite some of it in your own words.
It will save you from having to come up with product ideas.
Offer the new version to your list.

With kajabi.com if you don't want to have an own website... but you still kinda have one with kajabi.

You just always need a website where you can collect emails...
or you can advertise on other peoples blogs for money buy having a pop up with an optin on their site.

I agree that having competition is good as that means it is profitable. What you might want to focus on is getting your own share of the profits. Do doubt it is very competitive, but if you are willing to work hard and smart, you will be able to get some results from it.

None of this makes any sense. You want to build a list but don't want to make any money because it's too competitive. You don't want to build a website. You don't want to crate a product to give away.

What's the point in it all?

You could do it with a facebook page, but the best way would just be to learn how to use wordpress to make a squeeze page, look up how on youtube you could learn in 10 minutes.

I think you could do solo ads, that is to buy solo ads from someone who already has a large audience related to your niche, but you would at least need a squeeze page to collect their email addresses because if he sends out an email on your behalf , his subscribers need to opt-in somewhere. But for this method, you don't need a lot of quality content to be created.

If you want to test a niche and build a list without spending money upfront.

1: blogger.com --use it set up a blog on your niche and if you re good using blogger, you can customize the theme and design to look like a professional site. And you can also add your opt form there also.
2: dot.tk-- use this site to configure and redirect your blogspot link, instead of xxxx.yourdomain.blogspot.com, it goes xxxx.yourdomain.tk

Having a product isn't required, but not having a website is like trying to drive without a car.

You can try free solutions like blogs, squidoo lens, etc, but be warned that you can lose them at anytime and there have been alot of horror stories about people losing their 6 figure businesses by relying on free services.

The best service is one YOU control. Learn how to make a website and your list building efforts will improve tremendously.

As Alexa pointed out it can be done but the real question is, WHY would you want to do it that way? You could easily create a blog with wordpress and post your quality content there while building a list. Then later when you want to monitize, you already have a great site, loved by Google and full of great content to bring in new customers each week.

It would cost you less than $100 to buy a domain name and purchase hosting for your blog. The entire thing would be yours and you would never have to worry about someone else closing your account. You could post the content on your blog, get it indexed and then post it on Ezine Articles to drive more traffic to your site.

Now throw in some guest posting to other blogs along the way to bring in more traffic, post on some forums that are in the niche with a signature that links to your blog and sprinkle in some posts on yahoo answers about your topic and BOOM, list grows and revenue increases. Next thing you know you are sipping fruity drinks with little umbrellas on a beach and wondering why you didnt do it sooner.

I woupd definitely advise for you to get your own website, hosting, and a proper product or eBook to give away. If you're not trying to make money, then what are you trying to accomplish?

You can build optin pages in your autoresponder, they host the optin pages for you. Then go to the top ten forums in your niche and start posting with the optin page in your sig.

As you have read, you post is confusing. What is PLENTY? OF Quality content?

So, you want a list of people who would WANT the content you can produce, is this correct?

Then you know something about these people. Where do they go? What do they want? How would you get your content to them?
