Whats real and whats rubbish.

Hi all,

I'm new here, I hope someone can help me, I want to start some sort of online business, but I am finding it very hard to find what is real and what is rubbish.

I dont mind putting in the hours to make something work, and I dont mind investing a little bit of money in to something thats is going to work.

Can someone steer me in the right direction to a real online business please?

Thank you for your time,

Ian.

One piece of advice - look on here for information, try not to spend much money on training materials whilst you're learning the ropes.

Get a good ideas about how you would like to work, then think about buying in any specialised advice/products.

Check out things like finding a niche, finding a product, finding what people want then selling it to them.

Once that's done, then think about spending money

I've been going 3 months full on with my first site live for a month - but in that time I have bought what I didn't need too!

There are lots of different ways to skin a cat, and it's difficult to say what's BS and what isn't as your personal preference may not tie in with what actually converts. For instance I hate popup windows, but you get more opt-ins to your email signup if you use them...... is that BS, or right? You don't know til you customers sign up - or not.

Anyway, the best thing is to look on here and see what's going well for people, or have a look at their tips and see if *you* feel confident trying them.

Hope that's not too rambly and it helps you a bit....

When I first started back in 2002, I knew I loved to write and teach. So, I took the information I had in my head and created an ebook. Actually, wrote several for almost a year. Then I realized I had to get some traffic.

Tried PPC and it worked but it cost me some money. During that journey I realized that I loved marketing. It was so much fun getting traffic and converting that traffic. Overtime I shifted from product development to a service-oriented business model helping others.

My point is you have to start somewhere and it may not work. But the experiences and the nuggets you glean will help you to succeed faster.

As already stated, "don't spend any money" right away. It would make your life easier if you could figure out what you would like to focus on as you can start an online business offering just about anything.

    Hope I was helpful!

i totally agree with MsAngry ...

there's more than enough FREE information in this forum, in other forums and around the internet itself to get you started in internet marketing ... sure, some of them may make you sign up to their email lists, but these guides etc will tell you about 99% of the same stuff you might get told in a "paid for" course ...

    wish you best of luck!

It all depends on what you're looking for and what kind of income you want. There are many different ways to make money online, but you have to put you're time in. Full time will get you Full time results. Part time will get you part time results.

My 2c worth. Head over to blogspot and set up a free blog on any topic that interests you. You can practice writing, building content, building links for free.

Head over to Clickbank or Click2sell or Paydotcom. Find a product or two that fits with the topic of your blog. Add it and try your hand at article marketing (plenty of advice here on the forum)

All free and will give you the chance to try your hand at running a site, get you motivated to read the posts here on the forum and start to give you an idea of what interests, you.

          Good luck

My advice is to jump into the deep end of the pool and try stuff. Everyone goes through a period of confusion before they figure out what they're good at and what works. Usually, though what works seems to revolved around your core competencies. I had been a salesman for years, and also a writer. Guess what I do now? Sell and write, specifically PLR content.
