How to drive traffic for free

I have recently launched my e-commerce site and guess what? Nobody knows about it! I want to drive traffic to my site and because I want to make sure every process from taking orders to shipping products is thoroughly tested. Therefore, I only want to drive 2k to 3k visitors within a 30 day period.

So, my plan is to make helpful posts (keyword: helpful) on very relevant forums within my market niche. I will include a link to my website within my signature to drive the traffic. I do not want to make any blatant advertising posts using this method? I believe by making useful posts and responses will bring a level of trust and help to establish myself as an authority figure in this niche.

So my questions are, is this a good or bad way to drive small amounts of "relevant" traffic to my website?

Would you have any other methods that could bring 2k to 3k visitors in a months time that doesn't cost money?

Thanks in advance.

2-3k visitors within a month is a tough ask using only free traffic (at least, as far as I know).

You are on the right track though. Genuinely useful, informative, fun postings/comments on relevant forums and blogs is a good way to go to start building up some traffic. Within two or three weeks you ought to see some search engine visitors start appearing because of that work.

But other free methods to bring in quick traffic. Hmmm. You could try guest posting on popular blogs in your niche. Contact them, offer to write a tailored, informative piece for free.

To be honest I wasn't sure if 2k to 3k is a lot to try for. Using my head math [that's when I stare at the ceiling and move my lips slightly while running numbers in my head] I figured 1k visitors should be attainable within a months time using this method, especially in popular forums so I thought I'd hit it out of the ball park and go for 2k.

I will check into guest blogging. If I can get a very helpful blog in a popular site, that might drive much of the traffic I'm looking for.

      Thanks for the response

Here are just a few ideas:
        • Forum Marketing
        • Blog Commenting
        • Yahoo Answers
        • Article Marketing
        • Youtube Videos
        • Facebook Groups
        • Guest Blogging
So yes, forum marketing is a good idea to drive targeted traffic. 3k visitors a months is 100 visitors a day. I think it's doable, it might take more or less time depending on the size of the niche but with time it's possible. After awhile, all those posts, comments, links will start to add up and your traffic will grow exponentially.

EDIT: Key here is to STICK with one thing before trying the next one. You'll probably fail a few times in the beginning but if you stick to it, you will succeed.

thats actually a great way to drive free traffic - as long as your posts are informative and insightful. if people think that your comments are worth while, they may just check out your signature link.

another method of free traffic would be to comment on blogs related to your niche, much the same way as forum posting - by leaving descriptive, helpful comments. you can find relevant blogs on https://delicious.com/ and searching for "(your niche) blogs"

Yes I believe that is a very good idea and you are right about adding value on these forums. In the beginning dont say a word about your site, Myself, I wouldn't even add it to your signature. Hang around for awhile, get involved in discussions first. Blogging can be effective as well if you follow the same attitude and not just post to get your link out there. Article marketing, Facebook, NEVER FORGET YOUTUBE!, you'll hate this one probably but of course SEO. Nothing like a site sitting in the number one spot in Google right?

And these methods are free traffic right?

Anyways, if you want to drive free traffic fast, the best way to go about it is write great content that people would like to share with eachother so it goes viral.
Also build a list and email them every now and then to make them return and stay engaged to your site, and to earn dollars from them!

    HI there,

Congrats on setting up your site! As far as the number of visitors are concerned, I couldn't tell you whether this is feasible or not!

Regarding the method you're talking about, yes it works provided-- as you put it rightly-- that you offer valuable information, opinions etc! What you want is to brand yourself and to do this, you need to write good, entertaining and educating posts! You need to make the readers want to visit your site!

This doesn't necessarily means that you have to write essays each time but I'd suggest that you select a few forums or blogs and "brand yourself" there for 30 days! Avoid the one liners " Great post "lol! But I am sure you know that already! The thing is that I still see that on most forums and blogs!

You can also respond to other people's comments! It's a good way to interact and get people to know what you do!

    Good luck with it all!

You can also write articles-- let's say one really good targeted article a day for 30 days-- and post it on you site first and then Ezines articles for instance!

    Hope this helps!

    Yoan

In addition to the forum backlinks, see if you can optimize for three or four long tail keywords and try to get to page 1 of Google. You do not need high volume keywords. Three or four that get between 4,000 and 10,000 daily searches should do the trick. That will easily get you 100 uniques per day.

Forum marketing is definitely a good way to go.

Here are a few others that I use, some of these might not work with your niche:

    Podcasts:
Just talk about your site and what it offers then upload the podcast to the major podcast directories.

    Infographics (Depends on niche):
Get an infographic about your website made on fiverr then upload it to infographic websites.

    Pictures websites:
Depends on your niche but you can upload pictures to image sites, like pinterest, flickr, deviantart

    Reddit:

    Document Sharing Sites:
Share some info about your product/s

Not saying this is legal... but it will work

  • One great FREE method I have been using lately with great success is Facebook marketing. No, you don't have to buy any paid advertising, simply create a Facebook fan page or group , then join groups/pages in your niche and interact with people. You will be helping people out and get some very targetted traffic to your site.
