$50+ a day potential (I'm spilling the beans!)

Hi Everybody,

This is my first major contribution to WF and I'm spilling the beans!

1. google search this query:

site:craigslist.org inurl:wrg||wri writer||writers||writing||article||articles||conte nt||website||site -intern -reviews -internship -volunteer -editor -"no pay" -commission

2. Sort these google results to only show within the past 24 hours

3. You now have fresh leads of potential clients that are looking for article writers and website content.

4. Contact the leads, they will want to see a sample. Instead of showing them a sample (because you don't have one) is to offer them 200 words for free as a custom sample based on their instructions.

5. Write / outsource the work once they email you the instructions. Deliver and follow-up.

** I know 200 free words sounds bad, and at first it will seem like they're screwing you over. Yet over time you'll notice more and more people contacting you from a free sample you did weeks/months ago. This pays off if you're serious and willing to spend a few hours a day hard balling the system.
  • The google query can be modified to search other job/gig requests across the country.
  • Enjoy the beans I have spilled - please don't get spammy with it! This works best if each lead is sent a unique email tailored to their request.
  • I used this query daily to find leads when I was flipping articles in bulk.
  • The most effective part of this strategy is that you get the leads fresh that day from all over the country.

Good Luck!

Why not create a portfolio of samples, so that you don't have to give away work, in order to get work?

Having a selection of samples for your future clients to look at will help your prospects see that you are capable of writing in a range of topics.

When giving samples, always put your best foot forward.

Yes, i also agree with you, i think its time consuming to write, because there would be lot of freebies, who will just turn up and leave after taking free content.

You make a logical and straight forward point, Bill.

My angle with custom samples is a hard one, and I admit I worked it while I was desperate. My foot in the door was always a free custom sample based on their instructions because I was afraid if I didn't then I wouldn't stand above the other offers who are putting their best feet ahead of me. Thanks, Bill.

I did ghost writing for nearly a decade.

I built quite the portfolio, and I was able to show people articles in a lot of topics.

I was happy to show people what I could do, but I did not want to create something special just for them... Too much work for an empty promise...

I created custom content for paying customers only...

If you are concerned about losing the sale, then you need to learn to have more confidence in what you do... If you don't, your prospects will sense your uncertainty and buy from someone else who has the confidence they want to see in order to let loose of their cash...

      I'd agree on this.

Have confidence in your abilities and conserve your talent, the tactic is sound but while your writing free sample content you could be working on paying content.

A better method would be to have a range of samples pre-written, then contact your prospects as usual and point them to the samples.

If you have had no feedback cast your net wider, when you're speculating remember that not everyone will have an opening right away but if you've emailed them, they can get back to you later when they do.

      Exactly my thinking as well.

There is no need to write custom samples for every potential client. Just put together a handful of short samples and that's the end of it.

You're welcome! Hope it can help him!

      UPDATE:
      - I noticed when the query was in italics that the word "content" shows up as "conte nt"

      - If you remove the space it will show many more results in the past 24 hours.

      - All this probably goes without saying, but I wanted to be sure.

      Thanks!
