6 Month Blogging Assessment

Have been blogging for just a little over six months. Have posted about 115 articles (500 words) in this time. Written about 10 guest posts for low-medium traffic blogs. So am averaging about 20 articles per month.

To date have about 25 unique visitors per day, so about 750 unique visitors per month. Primary source of traffic is Haohao Report, a social bookmarking site designed for my niche topic of China.

Can anyone tell me their stories in building a blog at the 6 month period? Just trying to gauge how I am doing.

Well, I post 3 articles a month. Only have about 20 articles on my blog so far, and I have +/- the same amount of traffic as yours. But I do manual backlinking + advert.

Personally I think it's better to get more involved in comminuties, give value in there and those people in the communities will naturally be interested in what your blog is about and what value they can gain from that.

I started my new blog about a week ago and am getting about 50 - 80 people per day to my blog by actively being online and sharing things and giving as much value as I can.

    China,

Craig has the right idea here. You are doing the right thing by consistently and continually adding content. Just make sure it is very useful and that you are sharing it around the web. Another part of that is building up a following on social media sites. You can also drive traffic to it like Craig said by participating in forums and by commenting on other blogs. Take WF for example. You can troll this forum once per day and respond to people’s questions or post threads that are helpful. This will entice people to want to learn more about you and visit your website or blog in order to do so.

Here is also a good post on types of content that drive engagement for a blog,

Been blogging for longer than 6 months and never really got into guest posts...

I find the most effective mediums of free traffic are Facebook, Youtube, and I've been known to siphon off traffic from forums every once in a while.

Six months for 750 visitors a month is pretty bad. Adding content is NOT enough. There's no point in adding content so frequently when no one is reading it, you are wasting your content.

I started up a blog around 3 weeks ago now and haven't even gotten round to doing any proper promotion yet and have had over 500 visitors. That will sky rocket in the next few weeks when I start syndicating my content and doing promotion.

Whenever you post a new article to the blog you should spend a few hours promoting it. Get on all the niche forums that allow signatures and post a link to your new blog post in there and entice them to click by responding to posts and helping people. Blog commenting on all niche blogs linking back to the article where possible. Hit up social media and seek out people talking about your topic / keywords and connect with them to tell them about your content. Post the link to Reddit & Stumble it. Syndicate it out to other blogs in your niche. Create a video and send it out to all the video sites and get them ranked. Place links on Q&A sites.

On top of that to promote the blog generally I also do banner ads, mail out to other peoples lists who allow ads, promote to my own list and a few other things.

Lots of great ideas here - including posting links to reddit and stumble, which I haven't gotten around to!

Question though: Were you blogging BEFORE this blog?

I started blogging over a year ago. I averaged about 500 people per day after about 6-7 months. I made a total of $80 in 10 months time. Then I became passionate about an ongoing news story and starting connecting with other interested people on social media. Making those connections had made such a difference. I am not making a killing but I did make $54 in one day which I never thought would happen. The people I connected with spead my info all over the net. Without that audiance and those connections, I'd still be where I was. Stick it out, like everyone says. It may or may not pay off but you are far better off trying that not.

I post 1 article a week, about 1200 words. I try to include low-medium competition keywords, along with the keywords usable from the title of my post. I get most of my traffic from recurring visitors that have bookmarked my blog, liked through Facebook, etc...

also, one way i learned to get recurring visitors, is to include a noticable but not so dramatic opt-in form maybe along the side bar of your blog. That way, every person whom subscribed will now be a recurring visitor, thus increasing your unique hop count.

Keep writing and creating new content for your blog. Submit to the blog directories and submit your blog's rss feed to the rss directories. Make sure you monetize your blog also to make it profitable.

I've had my blog for about 1 year now and i post everyday. You should do the same. Strive to get 25 visitors per day via blogging ONLY as opposed to getting your traffic from social bookmarking sites. Traffic from here can be untargeted, unresponsive, and unprofitable.

It's all about how competive your niche is and the content you put on your site. For example, i have one site that is literally five blog posts and gets 3,000 to 4,000 visitors a month and haven't built a single backlink. The blog posts are longer about 1,500 to 2,000 words and the titles are "creative" and the have pictures plus lots of keywords are sprinkled in.

    Blog directories and RSS?? Hmmmm.

Why should he post every day? If no one is reading his posts he's just wasting his content. Post once per week to keep the blog updated and spend your time promoting it rather than publishing content no one is reading.

Strive to get 25 visitors per day? That's rubbish. You should be striving for 1,000 per day and you're not going to get it just by posting content and hoping people find it. You need to actively be promoting your content to the people who want to read it. Find out where your target audience or demographic already is and get it in front of them.

The best referral traffic for me is:

YouTube (my best source for referral traffic barnone)
    Leaving comments on authority blogs
    Commenting on the Warrior Forum
Posting in facebook groups (at least 5,000+ members should be in the group)

Also, start building a list. With 20 visitors per day and an opt-in rate of 4% you could be getting 1 subscriber almost every day. It's not much but it is a start.

Wow, that's a lot of articles to get that traffic.

I've done that traffic with one post, in fact that post continues to grow the traffic and rankings (I think that page would be pulling 50-60 uniques a day on its own now).

Make sure you're creating good, and useful content. The amount of times you blog isn't relevant. Blog when you have something useful to say.

You also need to encourage people to share your content, which they will do, if it is unique, and helpful.

My site is 8 months old and has 450 posts in multiple categories.

The site has 20,000+ visitors per month.

I think the figure is low and I need to work harder.

I have not given much importance to adsense but have earned over $2000 from other sources and looking for more or selling the whole site.

I see you have written a lot and promoted too little. Apply the 80/20 rule here but not the way you are doing it: spend 20% of your time writing and 80% promoting your site.

What's the point in writing that much is nobody is going to read your content? Spend less time writing (not decreasing the quality, not at all, but decreasing the quantity of posts written).

For marketing I would say that guest posting is great but you should also be doing forum marketing. Are there any linkedin groups that you could participate in?

Honestly said, it's a waste of time with these amount of visitors against your writing effort.
China News site, maybe related blog commenting, social media groups such as facebook, and trend sites would be the best choices to gain traffic from. Pinterest is also a good choice because most news have an interesting photos to share for traffic.
Forum is not as effective because mostly it's based on niche specific problem.

I have 4 blogs which are performing well in their niche.
I've spent about $500 each blogs for 10 articles outsourcing as well as Backlinking and promotion.
Each blogs receive a steady flow of organic traffic and social traffic. Within just 3 or 4 months, I've gained profits from each of them.
The traffic flow wasn't bounce below 200 UV per blog.

Therefore, you should spend more time promoting your sites rather than producing contents which are no reading as mentioned above.
