4000th Post ~ Business Idea Thread

For my 3000th post I tossed out a business idea and I believe a few people actually ran with it. It was a DMCA takedown service. This time I've got several ideas that, with the right effort and of course, the right marketing and promotion could be big.

Fiverr Clone With A Twist I can hear the moans and groans already. I'm not talking about another "all kinds of gigs" site. There are hundreds of those. The trick is to specialize in something. Why not put up a site where you only dealt with bargain basement graphics production.

For $10 a customer could get whatever the sellers would be willing to produce. Could be a header, ecover, logo, whatever. Build in upsell options and additional gigs. Look at fiverr's model and improve it. I actually began to set this up but decided I'd be hard pressed to write anything ever again if I did.

Software Reseller I've been doing some research lately and have come across an unbelievable number of really slick small apps with resell rights. Why not put up a site selling these products? I used to buy huge wholesale PLR and MRR lots and there were always tons of useful programs included. Get (or create) the graphics that they come with and create a little software store site. I know there are many out there now but make yours unique. Offer lots of variety and charge only a couple of bucks for each app. Do a search right now for MMR & PLR software and see how much stuff is out there.

eBay PLR & MMR Products eBay is once again allowing sales of digital products. But even if they weren't this will still work. This method has a nice little twist. Go to Alibaba or another wholesaler and pick up a small lot of 4GB USB flash memory sticks and load that sucker with MMR & PLR products. eBay has a little-known classified ad section where you get a 30-day listing for $10.

And... you can fill your page with almost unlimited stuff. There's no limit on images or text, within reason, of course. eBay doesn't take out seller's fees either. The $10 covers everything. You keep all the money you make. And your ad shows up in their main search right alongside the auctions. What makes you unique is you offer large lots of MMR stuff and as a bonus, the buyer gets a free 4GB memory stick. Make your eBay classified page look like one of those slick WSOs with all the tinsel and flashy graphics. No one on eBay is doing anything like this. Check out eBay's Classified ad section: Fees for Classified Ads

Book Review Swap Site Kindle is on fire. Hehehe... One thing that every author needs is reviews. Why not start a site where people could come, post their book along with their willingness to review someone else's book. Whatever agreement two people make is between them. The site has nothing to do with it outside of posting a TOS notice everyone would agree to upon joining. It could be a membership site. Or like WF once was, it might be free with enhanced benefits for a paid upgrade.

You could also have a marketplace where members or nonmembers could take out ads related to Kindle stuff. There are a few sites like this now but there is no one really giving it the attention it should get. This could really be huge. Do it right and become the 800-pound book review swap gorilla.

Easy Open Packaging This one has been on my mind for a long time. The whole thing about successful business revolves around this: Find a need and fill it. Have you ever opened an "easy open" package and had the sucker tear the wrong way completely screwing up the packaging? Maybe I'm the only one but it happens all the time. Same for CD & DVD packaging. Those flimsy little plastic cases are hard to open and break really easy.

Okay, I realize not everyone will be inclined to redesign easy-open packaging but hell, if we can transplant hearts and lungs and kidneys and eyeballs our culture can certainly come up with better packaging than we have now. How would you like to earn a half penny royalty for every package of cheese or shacks or pet treats or the 100s of other things that come with easy-open packaging. Just a thought.

Who says people are afraid to give their ideas away? :p Peace.

@travelinguy - I'd love to be able to pick your brain about plusing my current endeavor.

Its always about looking at the obvious and figuring out the opportunity to plus it.

    Wow, over 4000 posts....holy wow.

Anyways, one of the things i discovered is that the featured sellers section on fiverr is basically to enhance the bizarre stuff... the folks doing big money there...are never featured.

Fiverr is great for so many counterintuitive stuff and your idea definitely has merit, which again...would love to chat more with you about if ever you have time.

    Regards

Believe me, I'm not any kind of fiverr fan. But I do admire the model. Look around. Is there anyone taking the model and chunking it down to an individual market or niche even? A few maybe. But as I've mentioned with this and the review swap idea, no one dominates, not even close. Even the eBay thing. I was a power seller there years ago and I'm sure this would be successful if you could get the memory cheap enough.

I'm a writer and don't really want to do much else. But I see opportunity everywhere. Simple problems needing to be solved. That's what it's about. I mentioned the DMCA takedown idea. As far as I know there's still no one dominating there either and that's a fairly simple service that could easily be outsourced.
